This was one of my most positive mechanic experiences ever.
We were traveling through Indiana on our way back to Quebec.
The car was making an awful noise and I would have gladly
paid good money to make it go away and put my mind at ease
for a safe trip home. Craig knew this and could have fleeced
us. Instead, he assured me that the repairs (replacing two
wheel bearings) were not immediately necessary, and that I'd
get home safely without fixing them. He brought me under the
car and showed me the problem, pointed out one or two other
things that I should keep my eye on, and left me to make my
choice. They replaced one bearing at a time, starting with
the worst one, and then road tested it to see if it reduced
the noise to an acceptable level. When they were all done,
Craig noticed a whining noise coming from the last wheel
they worked on and realized they'd missed a detail. Without
blinking, they popped off the wheel again and took care of
it. When it was all done, he made me feel confident that the
car was roadworthy, and he even shaved a bit off the price
because it took longer than anticipated. If I lived in South
bend, Craig would get all my business.
