I went to Berzin's Auto after a negative experience at another shop. I have had routine work (oil changes and tire rotation) as well as more complex work (timing blets and axle replacement). They are very competent and friendly. Their prices are reasonable for quality work.

My first experience with this shop was when I couldn't get my old license plates removed -- the bolts were corroded tight. As they were due to expire the next day, I drove to the shop and asked them what I should do. The mechanic promptly brute-forced the bolts off, free of charge, and told me what type of non-corrosive bolts I should use when I put the new license on. Now that's great service! The second time I dealt with them they were very prompt and called to discuss all the work before they began, explaining the work and how much it would cost.

Tom is an honest guy who is willing to tell you when he does or doesn't know the solution. He has been fair and treated my wife as straight forward as he treated me. I wish I could enter more about his services, but I only had two done. Engine rumble: Knew it was engine mount, but was unsure which, gave me the prices for each of four mounts and let me choose (with his opinion of course). Tune-Up: Fair price, and I added an oil change (cheaper than Jiffy Lube--about 15 bucks). He also found some other things that needed replacing which made a huge difference. Estimates before ANY work. A big plus.

Took my '89 Camry to Tom with a leaking fuel tank around the seam. Was recommended by a friend whose work sends their fleet to him. Called him up ahead-of-time after someone figured it was the tank, and he gave me an off-the- cuff estimate (and final work done) that was far cheaper than everyone else I talked to. Popped it up on the lift (for free!) and pointed out exactly where the problem was. Told me what he'd do to replace it, and gave me his recommendation, which was to sell it/drive it below the leaking line as it wasn't worth the repair. Any mechanic willing to be honest like that is worth his/her salt in my book. Decided to get it fixed, worked on it, found a rusted part that was hidden by the fuel tank and replaced it with no extra labor charge! Car runs great again. In short, the thing I really liked about Tom was how honest and competant he seemed, and the fact that he could clearly explain and show what was wrong and provide serious feedback. He knows what he's doing, and will charge you a fair price.

Sold the Impala that Tom had serviced, and tossed all my records, a couple of years ago. Tom told me that there was a class action lawsuit on that make of car. I found that there is a settlement but I needed the VIN# to develop proof of ownership to file a claim. Tom had the information and I was able to get the needed proof and file my claim for $400 because he had excellant records!

Small shop, but Tom is very honest and will on fix what needs to be repaired. Maybe not be the cheapest around, but work is quality and price is reasonable.
