Was driving through Springfield Ill en route to North
Wisconsin with my wife and my 5 week old daughter. A few
days prior I had replaced a faulty wheel bearing on my
Pontiac and expected all to be fine. Unfortunately, even
being really experienced with car repair, I under torqued a
caliper bracket bolt. Well, I noticed something awry around
2 hrs into my drive, and I decided to get off on the
Springfield exit and check it out... noisy suspension on
bumps was the primary problem. Well, turns out when I get on
the off-ramp and hit the brakes I've got a VERY bad
shake/shimmy on the front end. I coasted as long as I could
and used the E-brake to slow the car down and limp the 1mile
or so to the nearest shop @ 5mph.
I walked into Midas and the receptionist was very nice, the
mechanic (Tony) took the wheels off and found that my
drivers side brake caliper bracket was currently being held
on by one bolt. He charged me .35 cents for a bolt out of
the tool box, and re-torqued everything for me (at my
request) and send me on my way within an hour.
The receptionist chatted with my wife the entire time , and
Tony let me come into the shop and see what was going on.
Best visit to a mechanic I've ever had. I walked out 35
dollars lighter, and feeling like we just stopped to hang
out with some friends. I just felt like a dolt for not
double checking my torque settings...
Go see Tony @ Midas Springfield, honest, nice guy, won't do
you wrong!
