I bounced from shop to shop in town looking for a really good mechanic. Found Jim Serr's and I have used them exclusively for five or six years now. I've never been dissatisfied.

They have always made time to do a free car check when we've considered buying a used car. They talked me out of doing an A/C recharge, telling me that the problem was most likely a faulty sensor. I'd recommend them to anyone.

These guys are great. They have worked on a variety of cars for us over the years and have always been honest. One time they made the extra effort to find a good used part in a local junk yard to save us some money. They have treated me as a women very nicely even when I have asked really dumb questions. Several times I have had a problem that wasn't major and they just said, "Come on by and we'll take a look at it." I drove in and they did just that...stopped what they were doing and took a look to see what needed to be done and advised me where to go from there. They have a "network" of local privately owned shops they work with and each one we have gone to has been as honest as they have been. Keep 'em on your list!

They are a pleasure to deal with.

These guys are great. We have been going to them for 15 plus years. They have often gotten us cheaper parts, fixed a minor thing right then, and had great ideas on hard to fix items. They are honest! The best part, they don't treat me (a woman)like a dummy when I ask dumb questions.

As a woman, I was treated intelligently. They took the time to make sure they were getting the right part and for the best price. I am sad that I had to move to another state, because I had finally found a mechanic I would return to for more work.

Perhaps the strangest review I've ever written, but these guys deserve it! My wife was traveling in the area in her 2000 VW Eurovan (okay, that was a mutual disaster - but after 30 years of marriage, it's not my fault all the time!) and the car delivered the "ABS BRAKE" warning on the dashboard near Pocatello (birthplace of Judy Gumm, alias Judy Garland), ID and started to rattle below the floorboards. They stopped (I was not on the trip), checked for loose parts (important on VW's forever) and after all was clear, started up only to have the light come back on! They made it into Idaho Falls, where I hooked them up with a shop recommended on another list and their diagnostic test said, "Bad wheel bearings - you need them replaced." Another night in a hotel, another day to find out that it was loose lug bolts - one fell off when she was turning in an intersection! That shop put the van together, apologized greatly, fired the mechanic, and 15 miles from town, "ABS BRAKES" on the dashboard. This morning, I called Jim Serr Automotive to see if she could take the van in to them - Car Talk Mechanic Files had great recommendations. "NO!" was the answer, "We don't work on them - they're not our kind of car." These guys I could get to like! He thought for a moment and recommended a shop that did work on VW's, saying it was the only one in the area he'd take a VW to - if he had to have a VW around and wanted it fixed. Friendly, informative, honest, and direct - he must have missed listening to Car Talk!
