Customer service like I haven't seen since the 50's and 60's. I always joke with the manager that 'at Speedy, you're a somebody' but at Donnie's, you're THE somebody. My vehicle is over 15 years old. This garage goes out of their way to keep my costs to a minimum. They also don't go by the book for labour per job, that is, if the book says 3 hours to change a set of struts and they do it in 45 minutes, the customer is charged only for 45 minutes. They automatically inspect every vehicle to look for any potential safety hazards, and will help the customer budget for repairs by forecasting the life remaining in certain parts such as brake pads, exhaust system, etc. Although they are very close to public transit, this route is not convenient to get me to my place of work. So I drop my car off in the morning and they either have a mechanic drive me to/from work or the manager lends me his car for the day. Except in winter, when you come to pick up your car, you'll find it has been washed. On request, and without further charge, they will also shampoo under the hood - afterall it provides the mechanics with a clean environment in which to work. I live in the east end of town, while this garage is in the south-west part. However, I don't consider it an inconvenience to go out of my way for this kind of service (and people). My brother recommended Don to me when my 10 year old Toyota Corolla was in the shop, looking at $4000 to put it back on the road. It already had 200,000km on it and I wasn't about to put more money into it. Don gave me the number of his towing service and they towed my Toyota to Don's location (at Don's expense). Later that day Don called my office and made an offer. I had just bought a 12 year old Buick. Don asked me to bring it in and he'd do whatever work was required in exchange for the pink slip for the Toyota. The Buick required replacement of the entire exhaust train, repairs to the AC compressor and a recharge of freon for the AC. That was done the following morning and I signed over the Toyota to him gladly. I found out later that he had put it back on the road for $50 in parts and his own labour, and had presented to a single mother he knew who was having trouble commuting between her various jobs. He gave it to her as a gift, and absorbed the cost of the repairs to my Buick. This is the kind of person Don is. I can't say enough good things about Don and his whole operation. They're the best!
