Justin Lis, the owner, learned car-repair and body-work from his father. I first went to him for serious body-work after an accident, and was amazed: I didn't think they made 'em like that anymore. AFTER the repair, I discovered that one of my headlamps kept going out and filling with water. He spent careful, patient time figuring out WHAT was wrong (I won't go into details), and then even more time FIXING the headlamp assembly--as opposed to the dealer, who wanted me simply to shell out some $40 to REPLACE it. He's as honest as the day is long, and I found out that in addtion to body work, he does auto-repair and servicing, down to humble little oil-changes. I cannot recommend him highly enough. Oh, and yeah, that first body- work job? He came in $40 under the estimate and insurance check--and TOLD me so. One of a kind. If you're in the area, this guy is your man. I was a delighted customer, and I cannot recommend him highly enough--I've made all my friends take their cars to him, and they all have the same reaction.

It changed my life, encountering Albin Lis and his son, Justin, the principals of this little garage. I had gotten into a small accident and needed body work; a neighbor (professional truck driver) had a friend over doing some work on his house--the friend happened to work for the Lis's from time to time, and recommended them to me very highly--and so, even though they were 15 miles away, I went there to have the body work done. They were so nice to me--and so OBVIOUSLY competent and skillful--that I asked if they also did routine repairs--and at once started relying on them for all my repair needs, as well. EACH time I've gone to them with a problem, they have fixed it with as little expense to me as possible, and always with a thoroughness and sense characteristic of mechanics who KNOW what they're doing, love cars, and THINK before they just REPLACE. Specific examples: I had broken the gear-shift lever, and it no longer went into first in winter--and was difficult to shift. Justin took apart the mechanism, figured out what was wrong, and instead of REPLACING the damaged part, took out his welding torch, FIXED the part, and put it all back together again for me. Recently, I watched their mechanic, whom I know only by his nickname "Bozo" changing a fuel-pump which we knew to be malfunctioning. The extreme CARE with which he effected the repair--the precision of each step--just was jaw-dropping. When he saw that the part had a different connector, with the meticulous attention of a SURGEON, he carefully welded the new connector onto the wires, even staggering the welds so that the new joints would not crowd one another, and all the wiring would fit neatly back into the sheaths that had held them--he took not a single short-cut, and worked as a fine artist might work on his masterpiece! Visiting them is like going back in a time-machine to an era when people took pride in their craftsmanship and excellence, and I never go anywhere else unless THEY send me there themselves. I happily drive up there--20 minutes each way!--just for my regular oil-changes. Both Albin Lis and his son, Justin, are relentless when it comes to figuring out WHY a car is misbehaving. From a light-bulb that kept going out on me to an engine that kept stalling, they kept after the problem like sleuths until they were satisfied that they'd found out EXACTLY why things were failing--and--sure mark of confident mechanics and confident physicians!--one the few occasions when they aren't sure, they SAY so, and think about it some more. And far from feeling that their charges are unreasonable, I often find myself reminding them of little extra things they're forgetting to charge me for, or pressing them to make out a bill for me instead of waving their hands and saying, "oh, forget it." When they do sit down and make out a bill, I always have the feeling that I'm getting full value and more for my money. One need only spend ten minutes at their little old shop to know that I am not their only devoted customer. Every hour, some customer comes by just to say hello or drop off a pastry (they love sweets), and one can tell that each and every one is a customer who swears by their work, and their decency as men and mechanics. There are very few businesses I can praise so highly, and I don't think I've ever had mechanics I trust as well as I trust them. It was my lucky day when my neighbor's friend sent me up to have my car's fender replaced there!
