Run, Jack. And don't look back.

Dear Tom and Ray:
I read with interest your series on buying a new car. I have one question you didn't address. It has to do with when I'm in that little room with the empty desk and a single light bulb hanging from the ceiling. There I am negotiating the deal, and the assistant sales manager leaves to talk to the boss. My question is this: When the salesman (the one with the pointy Italian shoes) leans over, pats me on the shoulder, and whispers "I'm on your side," what should my reaction be?
Jack
TOM: Your reaction should be the same as when someone says "I'm from the Government, and I'm here to help you." Run, Jack. And don't look back.
