Listener Guest Book: Tom Magliozzi

Tom made me smile, made me laugh, and informed me. How many people are that talented? RIP.

My deepest prayers and sympathy to the entire Magliozzi family. I've been laughing to the show for more than twenty years and will continue to do so as long are there are podcasts to be had! What made the show so appealing for me wasn't the knowledge of all things automotive (which was vast!), but rather the wonderful relationship between Tom and Ray. The laughter, the banter, the teasing, the harmonizing (seriously, did you hear them sing!!!??) - only brothers who love each other deeply could do that week after week. You two have been a gift to so many listeners for many years. Thank you for sharing yourselves with all of us. May God bless the family with comfort and peace.

I almost regret not mailing a $20 bill with a puzzler.. if it wasn't illegal I might have! You guys will always be part of our family, you brought fun, and more than a little knowledge. Thank you for sharing yourselves with us. We won't forget you. Rest in Laugh, Tom!

CarTalk is the only NPR show that my kids can bear to listen. Every one was quiet so they could hear the questions and the funny answers. CarTalk was my introduction to NPR way back when, and lead me to listen to them so much that my local NPR station is now preset #1 in my car. Thank you Click & Clack, for brightening many a Saturday morning, and sometimes afternoon if I missed any the first time around. Thank you for you time, effort, and love of helping others.

I heard with great sadness about the passing of your brother. I will never forget the reading on the air of my letter, thanking you guys for all of your BS, allowing my tomatoes to flourish! Rest in peace, big guy.

I am deeply sorry to hear of Tom's passing - still I am glad, to read some humor in the lines about his leaving this world. It is great to know, that he was loved! For my part, I have been listening to you guys ever since I spent a year of my life for studying in the US. Your voices, your humor, your energy, your laughter.... rotten fish... men picking their noses... red lights being covered with tape so as to not see them... listeners initiating the car noises... stomp the chomps (is that the right spelling? Never thought about it)... Last week's puzzler... I will miss it, really sad!

Dear Ray, I can not express the level of sadness I feel with Tom's passing. I know you and Tommy were the closest of brothers and friends. The first time I heard your broadcast many years ago, I thought "who are these crackpots." I've been hooked since. It is ironic and appropriate that I was driving when I heard the news. I had to pull to the roadside to regain my composure. I love you too knuckleheads. If only there were more people like Tommy in this world. I pray that your grief will be lessened knowing that millions of the Car Talk family share your sorrow. I look forward to you next broadcast. Blessing of peace and joy.

Please accept my deepest sympathies. I always thought if I could sit next to anyone on an airplane, I would like to sit BETWEEN these brothers. His laugh will live on.

I'm sadden by the news of Tom passing today. I remember the first time I heard Car Talk the year I graduated from college. Many times I was caught laughing to myself in the car as I was driving in Berkeley feeling 'real smart'. My Saturday mornings will be a little more empty now...

Who knew talking about cars could be so much fun? Saturday mornings will never be the same--so smart, so funny, so in love with life--Tom was the perfect jokester, and Ray the perfect foil; then again, there's Ray the perfect jokester and Tom the perfect foil. Thanks for the fun, for the information, and the sane perspective on a crazy world.

Thanks for great years of good humor, smart analysis, and occasional solutions to car problems! Tom (and you, Ray) are originals...may the support of family, friends, and listeners be of some comfort to you in this great loss.

To Ray and the Magliozzi family from the Connelly-Costanzo family - our deepest condolences. Thank you both for memorializing one of the funniest stories of the courtship of my wife and I - a CJ7 that slowly self destructed on the trip from Ohio to DC to meet my wife's parents. The story took 2d place on your Summer Road Trip contest. We were so excited - that you both found something that WE did funny... so small in comparison to the hundreds of hours of laughs you provide us over the years. God Bless. All our prayers to Tom and your family.

65 years old and I'm sitting here crying. What an absolute joy of a person to have had on this planet. Listening to that laugh was such a wonderful way to start the weekend. My thoughts are with Ray and the entire family.

Fellow MIT grad of '64 has been listening to your show for the past 20+ years and loving it. Tom and Ray have given the world hours of fun (and some good advice about cars). My car is green. My sister (in Dorchester) has her house wired so that when you turn the lights on in the bathroom (and just about every other room in the house) the radio comes on, tuned to NPR (WBUR), and frequently Tome and Ray are there to join you. Thank you so much. Loyal NPR (KUOW) member and listener near Seattle.

Listening to you and your brother has brought me more joy and more laughs per minute than any other activity I can think of - and on top of that I even learned a little about cars. Take care.

My deepest condolences to Ray and the rest of the Magliozzi family. We've truly lost a national treasure. The show, even the repeats, never failed to make me laugh and smile several times during each episode. I hope the show continues to air shows from the archives. It won't be the same though, knowing that Tommy is gone.

I learned so much from y'all. That if money can solve a problem, and one has the money, then one hasn't got a problem. That it is ALWAYS good to have jumper cables, know how to use a jack, AND AAA. And that no problem is so great that it cannot be laughed at. Thinking of your family--both NPR and natal. Light and love. And drive as you wish now, Tom. Drive as you wish. Thank you.

So very sorry to learn of Tom's death, Ray. Hopefully he didn't suffer. I haven't had a car in 14 years but that didn't keep me from listening to the two of you every single Saturday. I still listen every Saturday. You both brought so much joy and laughter to your listeners! I wish you and all the Magliozzis peace.

While driving in my car today, I heard the news about Tom's passing. I instantly felt sad, but also had to smile and even laugh as a clip from one of their shows was played with Tom laughing so hard that he couldn't talk. What a treasure that we've had our weekends blessed with this talent of his and Ray's. God bless.

I've listened to Car Talk for years and always enjoyed the banter mixed in with a little bit of talk about cars, car repair - anda that week's puzzler. No offence, Ray, but the biggest thing I will miss on Saturday mornings is hearing Tommy's laughter. Take comfort in the years you had together. I'm glad there are still so many recordings of the programs, so we can hear him laugh again. RIP, Tommy, I'll bet your MGTD won't leak a drop of oil in heaven and will start every time!

I've always considered Car Talk a gateway show to liking other NPR programming. Informative, not political, and funny as heck. It was the first show that was a must listen for me and eventually got me into other shows like Wait Wait and This American Life as well as the news programs. I love and appreciate Tom and Ray's contribution to the radio world. Tom will be missed.

I feel like I have lost a dear old friend who has accompanied me through my life punctuating each week with laughter. Whether white- knuckled driving through snow in the East, or to a friends wedding..or funeral, or more recently drinking under Western skies, I always tuned in for the silliness and pure joy. Tom will be sorely missed and long remembered. My thought go out to Ray and their families.
