Listener Guest Book: Tom Magliozzi

The best laugh I ever heard. Doug Berman is right. Tom and Ray changed NPR. They are the reason I began listening to NPR. As much as my teenage children complain about my listening to only NPR in the car, the complaints never occur when Car Talk is on. My condolences to Ray, and to the rest of the family.

To Ray and the whole Magliozzi family, my heartfelt condolences. Your work on the radio is timeless and funny no matter how many times I hear the same jokes. I look forward to long driving trips so I can listen to as many Car Talks in a row as possible. Just know that there are millions of us thinking you and your family, and honored that Tom shared himself with us on the radio for so many years.

What sad news. I called my husband as soon as I read the news. Thanks for the memories and giving us the gift of laughter. My family is a "laughing group" and we always loved hearing you two banter and laugh together. It is a gift from heaven. A spiritual gift....it is JOY. thanks Ray and Tom for giving that to so many families. Your show and spirit will live with us forever.

Thank you for so many years of wise cracking buffoonery and genuine belly laughs. Thank you for caring about cars before computers. Thanks for making NPR loosen up a little! We will miss you terribly. But thank you, thank you, thank you. God bless your families and may you always have laughter in your lives!

For many years my idea of a perfect Saturday morning has been to put on my grubby clothes, grab a cup of coffee, go into the garage and work on one of my vehicles while listening to Click and Clack. I send my condolences to the Magliozzi family and to Tom's colleagues at NPR. His zany wit and intelligence will be missed.

I wish I could remember my single favorite memory. I can't. What I do remember is the companionship of Tom and Ray on long trips and how that made me feel that I wasn't really far from home. I can only say thanks, you were there when it counted.

We thought we knew him and he was our hilarious friend; that's how good he was on Car Talk and the world is just not the same without him. To his family, we send the most sincere condolences, and to Ray, our sympathy for the loss of your brother and partner in fun. We are sorry that we, too, shall miss his wonderful laughter that would laugh us out of any cranky mood. Bless you.

I remember planning my Saturdays around Car Talk for many years. So sad to hear that Tom is no longer with us. Thanks to Tom and Ray for making me laugh and very occasionally making me cry. You kept me company at times when I was really lonely, and I can't thank you enough.

So very sorry to learn of Tom's death, Ray. Hopefully he didn't suffer. I haven't had a car in 14 years but that didn't keep me from listening to the two of you every single Saturday. I still listen every Saturday. You both brought so much joy and laughter to your listeners! I wish you and all the Magliozzis peace.

I have been listening, religously, since I moved to the US as a refugee from my native Bosnia. The brothers made me feel very welcome, thanks to the intimate nature of radio listening. I learned a lot, I laughed more. As I am wiping tears as I type this, and don't know whether laugh or cry. He and Ray taght me a lot. That getting an education is important but that what you did with it was your own decisiion, ot the "machine's" My sincere sympathies. He will be missed, but that laughter and him, never forgotten

I've always considered Car Talk a gateway show to liking other NPR programming. Informative, not political, and funny as heck. It was the first show that was a must listen for me and eventually got me into other shows like Wait Wait and This American Life as well as the news programs. I love and appreciate Tom and Ray's contribution to the radio world. Tom will be missed.

I have been an ardent listener for many years, and continue to listen every day on Sirius radio. After a long and sometimes difficult day, listening to CarTalk brings back the spring in my step. I have missed the live programs, and am saddened by the news that Tom will no longer be sharing his laugh. To the family - please know that Tom brought a bundle of joy to listener's hearts every week - I only wish that I could have known him personally! Dave

My deepest prayers and sympathy to the entire Magliozzi family. I've been laughing to the show for more than twenty years and will continue to do so as long are there are podcasts to be had! What made the show so appealing for me wasn't the knowledge of all things automotive (which was vast!), but rather the wonderful relationship between Tom and Ray. The laughter, the banter, the teasing, the harmonizing (seriously, did you hear them sing!!!??) - only brothers who love each other deeply could do that week after week. You two have been a gift to so many listeners for many years. Thank you for sharing yourselves with all of us. May God bless the family with comfort and peace.

Ray, my sincere condolences to you and your family. Oh, how your dear brother will be missed by all that loved him! I am often trying to remind myself that love is stronger than sorrow and it is obvious to all that listened to your show how much love was present in your relationship. I want you to know that I know absolutely nothing about cars and I tuned into your show just to hear your brotherly antics and humorous banter. Thank you for brightening my Saturday mornings. I just know that Tom is now keeping watch over you and offering his joyful spirit eternally up above!

I am truly sad to hear this news about Tom Magliozzi. I listen to Car Talk every Saturday afternoon. After just reading some articles on the website, did not even realize that the Tappet Brothers had retired in 2012 and I have been listening to repeats for the past two years! In 1990 I had spent a month in Santa Fe, New Mexico. One afternoon I drove in my cool rented red Pontiac Trans Am to the local mall to do some shopping. While driving, this program CAR TALK came on the radio. I was charmed and mesmerized by the hilarious banter and excellent car repair advice. Arriving at the mall, I parked in the lot, stayed in the car and listened to the rest of the program. I became an instant fan that day. I am sad for Ray and all the NPR family for this loss of one unique individual. Best to you Tom for a smooth drive!

One of those OH NO, kind of moments! I LOVED hearing Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers on Car Talk every Saturday morning. I've said it repeatedly, these guys could have been reading the phone book and I'd still tune in. It's a tribute to them, especially because I am really not that interested in vehicle repair. But the show was so much more than that. I had heard about a year ago that they had announced they were ending their show, but I kept hearing it on the radio and so was wondering what was up. Apparently, the reruns for the last 2 years were that good. May Tommy's memory be for a blessing. He gave me so much to laugh about!
