I have used this shop for about 15 years and have recommended them to a number of friends and coworkers. I have yet to hear poor feedback from my recommendations. They are honest - a rare commodity - usually explaining the problem with your car in detail then, if possible, offering several repair options from a cheap fix to a dealer level repair and explaining the risks/rewards of each (e.g. 'the noise you hear is a alternator bearing that is starting to go bad, if the noise bothers you, we can replace the alternator with a factory rebuilt unit for $X. However, the bearing isn't likely to fail any time soon and it will let you know when it ready to because the noise will get louder. So if you can live with the noise, you should be able to get one to three more years out of it.' That was over 3 years ago, I am finally going to replace the alternator, because the noise got louder - three years of extra use out of the part!) The only problem is that they usually have a several day - two week+ backlog of work.

I have used JB for about 15 years and recommended them to many friends. Jim is expert diagnostician, not a parts changer. One time my car failed inspection for emissions so I figured I was in for some major work. They called me back about 1 hour after taking it in to tell me the car was fixed. I asked how much, and they told me $30. They found a leaking vacuum hose which they replaced. I think they had an opportunity to have taken advantage of this situation by selling a tuneup, etc., but didn't. They are also very good at explaining how they determined what was wrong and giving you options when available. Unfortunately these guys are a dying breed.
