Dear Tom and Ray:

I have a 1989 Mazda 626. When I turn on the fan to setting 1 or 2, it doesn't work. When I turn it on to setting 3 or 4, it works fine. What should I do?

TOM: I'd move to either a hotter or colder climate, Rick, so you can use your blower at high speed all the time.

RAY: Actually, the fan speed is controlled by a couple of resistors. Those resistors are switched on and off in various combinations to create the different fan speeds. And one of those resistors has gone bad.

TOM: Take the car in and have your mechanic replace the blower motor resistors. That should take care of it.
