My daughter's check engine light came on 200 miles from Denver, as she drove our 1990 Volvo 740 cross country. She went to Shavano, who didn't have the special computer for that model, but they checked the car out and reassured her that it was fine to make it to Denver to a shop that works on old Volvos. Very nice and helpful and no charge for the quick checkup. Thanks, Shavano!

Our Honda Pilot's oil light suddenly came on--plenty of oil but zero oil pressure. This is a very unusual problem for Hondas. Jeff at Shavano checked everything he could think of (and that our mechanic in Denver could think of too) and diagnosed the problem accurately as the oil pump. He was very non-defensive even when our Denver mechanic called him to talk about what he was doing and finding. He used a special parts ordering phone number provided by our Denver mechanic to "hot order" the part; it arrived in 3 days as opposed to 3 weeks. Once it arrived, he had the car up and running the next day. He checked out the old oil pump to see if he could figure out why it failed--I appreciated his inquiring mind. He also suggested doing the timing belt, since it was about due and he was already working in that area. While doing that, he noticed that a couple of other belts were getting old and replaced those. The price he charged us was exactly what he said it would be and it was considerably cheaper than all the work would have cost us in Denver. He didn't always call us back to update us when he said he would. But he never minded our calling him to check on the status. Considering we were not regular customers and just in from out of town, he was very helpful in getting to our vehicle in a timely manner.

My wife dropped off our 2000 VW Passat to get the front end aligned. Our local guy couldn't adjust the camber because it required a special tool. I called Shavano and they said they had the tool and could correct the problem. When my wife picked up the car and asked for the alignment read out and an explanation of the print out, the owner blew up. Asked my wife to leave. He was literally yelling at her. She got him to calm down and try to explain the print out which he wasn't able to do. From the print out, it looked like the alignment was made worse. Because of the owner's reaction, I took to our car to our normal alignment guy (local instead of a 35 mile drive) and he still showed the alignment off and that they did nothing at Shavano. Not sure how this guy stays in business, but I will never take my car here again and would strongly discourage others from supporting a business that treats a customer in such a manner.
