Nexus Auto Transport is a large national auto shipping company based in Chicago. The company has been around since 2016 and offers services for shipping vehicles of all types, as well as the ability to ship door-to-door, which can be a big benefit for folks that want to ship without the hassle of having to move the vehicle around prior to and after shipment.
Nexus also offers the rare ability to place a small deposit to ship a vehicle, which is refundable. That, combined with its super-fast quote process that does not require personal information, makes Nexus a forward-thinking company in a business where companies frequently take everything but a person’s blood type to give quotes.
Shipping companies look at several factors when making decisions on what to charge to ship a car. The time of year, size/make/model of vehicle, distance, and speed of shipment all play a role in pricing. Our sample rates below were obtained using a 2015 Subaru Outback as the sample vehicle and “as soon as possible” as the shipment request date.
Shipping a vehicle with Nexus appears to be a straightforward process. The company offers quick online quotes and only requires a $25 reservation fee to get the ball rolling. Once your reservation is confirmed, Nexus reaches out to its network of shippers to find one that fits your needs. The company says that it will work around your schedule to ship at a time that best fits your needs. Once the vehicle reaches its destination, you or the person you’ve shipped to will have an opportunity to inspect the vehicle for damage and condition. Any balance you owe for the shipment can be paid directly to the driver, you sign off on the bill of lading, and that’s it.
Nexus offers a dead-simple online quote system and offers the ability to quickly enter two locations to get a distance and cost to ship a vehicle. It then offers three shipping options with pricing. There’s typically a “premium” enclosed price, a “reliable” best price option, and a “fastest” expedited option.
Like all shipping companies, Nexus considers a variety of factors when setting its shipping rates. They include:
Nexus does not require that your vehicle be insured prior to shipping, but the company recommends that you carry insurance anyway. Its policy will protect your vehicle for up to $250,000 in damages if the trucker’s policy does not cover your claim, but be aware of what that policy actually covers. Most shipping insurance policies only cover damages that are caused by the driver’s direct negligence.
Like many auto shippers, Nexus carries mixed reviews from its customers. The Better Business Bureau collected these reviews:
"Great customer service and efficiency with delivery. The agent helped with providing a great quote, location pick and prevention of any delay throughout the entire process thank you very much." - Diana
"Lina of Nexus Auto Transport assisted me in shipping a car and I had such a calm and smooth experience. Lina answered all my questions and replied to my texts.Great!!!!"
"Scammer, they give you a low rate at first, when you are on the hook, they ask for an extra charge. They gave me a three-day window to pick up my car. The car wasn't picked up on time as we agreed. Later, they called and asked for an EXTRA $ 200.00 to complete the transport!! Otherwise, (they told me) will not be able to transport your car!! My Car at the auction, my free storage days have already ended, and because of Nexus’s dishonesty, I have to pay $ 40.00 each night until I find another company to transport my car!! If I could give them 0, I would. Horrible communication and big Liars."
"Horrible company if your reading this and have not made an appointment with them I strongly urge you not to use this company. They are not even the company that transports your car. They are just a dispatch for other companies. The first thing they do is try to get your info to sell to other companies and who knows what else. A day after I made the appointment with them email after email call after call asking me to get a shipping quote all for several different companies It was so bad I couldn't tell who's who calling anymore. There supposed to call and get the company to transport for you not have random ones call you. They just want your card info email and address to sell to other companies. Now for the next month I'm going to have to keep blocking calls and emails and probably change my card number. Please don't use this company you will regret it."

No. Extra items inside your vehicle not only add weight, they can also end up being damaged. If a non-vehicle item is damaged during shipping, the carrier will likely not reimburse you for the costs of repairs or replacement.
Yes, you can. Most major auto shippers offer services for boats, RV, and other recreational vehicles. Easy Auto Ship also offers instant online quotes for these vehicles.
Absolutely, but it’s important to let your shipping company know about any operational issues your car has before booking it a ride on a truck. If the car doesn’t run, extra equipment will be needed to load it on a trailer, which is going to add cost to the shipping quote.
Again, yes, but make sure you let the shipper know ahead of time. If the vehicle is absolutely mangled, you’ll probably be able to ship it, but special accommodations may need to be made to both load and fit it onto a trailer.
