I am not mechanically inclined. When I was first calling around and checking for mechanics for my new-to-me Jetta, the owner answered the phone and took the time to help me. He spent several minutes listening to my car-jibberish as I tried explaining the problems I was having. We made an appointment and since then, has done wonders for my car. The most impressive thing was that this was a SATURDAY when they weren't even open (I believe he was expecting a call from someone else when he answered my call). It was a Saturday, and instead of rushing me off saying he was closed, he took the time to listen and help. Very impressive.

I normally do all the work on my cars myself but, when I don't want to do something myself, this is the only shop I'll use to get the work done. I know the chief technician - his daily driver is 30 years old and has done well over 200,000 miles, but the car looks and runs like new.

My first experience with an independent mechanic shop, and so far my best! My 216,000 mile MBC230 started running roughly with the check engine light on, and I didn't feel like getting fleeced again by the "service advisors" at the local dealership service department. Jose Lara, the owner, has been in the biz for 29 years, and you can tell he knows what he is talking about; he explained exactly what needed to be done and the car runs like new again (for a car with 216,000 miles!) After the $1000 car washes from the other place, German Auto Clinic is a breath of fresh air! I'll be back!

I went to German Auto Clinic because they were recommended on the Car Talk site for Porsches. After calling to confirm that they did indeed also service Audis, I took my car in to have the brake light replaced. After checking to see whether he could quickly help me out, Jose was sorry to report that he would need to charge me for 15 minutes work because of where the lamp was located and how they needed to get to it. I was happy to pay it since I have had experience with other dealers/mechanics who charge a minimum of one hour no matter how quickly the work is done. Jose was friendly, courteous, and gave me full explanations of the work he was doing and future work I plan to have done. I felt very confident in having him work on my car and I definitely plan to go back. He was dismayed when I told him he was only listed under Porsche repairs on your website so I promised I would share the word that he works on all German brands.

Wow! These guys are really, really good. Honest to the core. I have been a customer for approx. 14 years and in all that time Jose and his staff have been totally above board. My wife and I went thru approx. 5 mechanics in the Walnut Creek area before finding Jose's shop. We are going to be moving out of state and I wish we could take Jose and his shop with us! Honest to the God Lord they are this good, people. We LOVE these guys! The shop is the "Gold Standard" in automotive maintance and repair. I recommend these guys to everyone I meet who mention they are not happy with their mechanic or are looking for a new one (and no, I am not on their payroll or get any thing for my referrals. I just thing good, honest people deserve to be recognized and their business patronized). MEGA kudos to Jose Lara and his shop! P.S. Many times when we are in the area we stop by just to say "hello!" - how many mechanics can you say that about? Lastly, Jose owns the place and he really, truly treats his customers like he would family. Good, good people.

I also want to recommend (Jose Lara at) the German Auto Clinic. I bought an old 911, wanted it checked over: * Jose insisted on coming to the garage at 10pm so he could secure the car overnight * Correctly estimated 60K service had been done recently and recommended not to re-do it. (It turned out the 60K service was done at 57K. The car has 64K on the clock) * Correctly traced alarm fault to gas cap gasket and fixed it with a $2 rubber gasket (billed me 30 mins total tech time, which I think was reasonable) * Called to update me on progress, sort out convenient time for me to collect the car * (At my insistence) replaced windscreen seal cover (about $35, plus 30 mins labor) * Changed oil/filter, refilled with synthetic oil * Made no attempts to upsell me unnecessary service itmes * Valeted car * Stored the car for a week whilst I extended a business trip to Europe * Waited till 7pm for me to get back from SFO till 7pm last Friday In brief, I unreservedly recommend GAS, will be using them again. And the next time has rolled around: this time it's my Subaru Outback (obviously not a German car), but I believe Jose when he say's he can do it..

Jose generally tries to talk me out of unnecessary repairs. His bill is about half the Porsche dealer cost, and I feel I'm getting professional, knowledgeable advice. I since helped Jose diversify - he services my Subaru Outback now. And when I get back, the work has been done to a high standard - not like the local Subaru dealer who charged a lot, but did little (if anything) for it. So I give German Auto Shope 5 stars
