The most important factor for me is trust. If Steve (the owner and head mechanic at J & S) says my car needs work, I have not the slightest doubt that it does. Not the slightest. I can relax. It's a pleasure to see someone who enjoys his work as much as Steve. He loves figuring out the best way to solve a problem, and that——plus his many years of experience——is why he's so good at what he does. As a young man, Steve began training to be a doctor. He left the medical field because he didn't feel there was enough integrity in the medical profession. So he's become a car doctor. With integrity.

Steve could host Car Talk! We just moved to the area and this shop was recommendedby a co-worker. We had noticed our car was running very noisily and then it suddently started wobbling to the left and right. Two other mechanics were unable to diagnose the problem and dismissed it. When my husband and I dropped it off with Steve, we could tell immediately that he would take the problem seriously and he made us feel that he was excited to figure out exactly what was happening. Not only did he solve the problem (which was a damaged inner axle joint and was actually dangerous), he was personable, approached the problem logically, and enthusiastically explained it to us. His passion is contagious - he transformed our car from one that had been stressful/annoying to one that is a pleasure to drive. He's the mechanic you would wish your friends and family in every city could go to.

We found this shop here at cartalk.com and Steve has been the greatest mechanic! His prices are not always the cheapest but he does good work and he will always tell it to you straight. He mostly deals with my husband about the cars, but he explains things very well to me too.

I have been using steve for about 9 yrs. now, and have referred many of my friends to him . This all started with a buddy of mine who purchased a 72 porsche914. The porsche broke down on the side street next to this garage, so we pushed it into the front of his door, and left a note on the window. Then threw the keys under the door and left.

We have been trusting our cars to Steve for years. I have referred a lot of people to him over the years. I have never gotten a complaint from anyone I referred, and have gotten positive feedback from a lot of them. Steve is 100% honest, and a really good mechanic.
