My wife has 28 year old VW Squareback which she refuses to give up! We bought the car new and had a very dedicated (Russian) mechanic at first (after the Warranty ran out)named Vladimir, but he retired. For a while I maintained the car in an amature sort of way but now we consider ourselves very lucky to have found Adolph and Roger, his son. Adolph can be a bit grumpy at times (who wouldn't be working on old cars!) but he has a good sense of humor (besides being a good 'Old School' mechanic. His son Roger is a Jewel. We have never had a complaint and their prices are so reasonable that I often wonder how they can survive.Occasionally, for good customers he works on other than VW's: He just fixed my daughters'Camry's breakes. I wish I could have them work on my car, but I drive a '97 E320 M.B. and they don't have the necessary electronic equipment.

I was about to take my VW in to a major chain service shop to fix a cylinder #4 misfire (I wanted them to swap out the spark plugs). I spoke to the chain store's service shop technician... who said he doubted it was the plugs and was then alarmed when I told him it might be gunky plugs because my car burns oil (I'd accepted this fact a while ago, a lot of new VW's do this). I started imagining major work being done to get to the bottom of this oil burning issue... that's when I realized I needed a VW specialist! So I found Folkscraft on this site. Shortly after driving in Mike pulled out a spark plug; it was covered in gunk. He swapped out all the plugs + wires (and did an oil change) all in under two hours and had me on the road again for a very reasonable price! (And on the way out, he handed me the cleanest of my old plugs in case that #4 plug went bad again!)

The BEST experience I've EVER had dealing with an auto mechanic!! Totally competent, and very honest. My dad recommended that I check out Car Talk online to find a good person to take a look at my 2001 VW Jetta. My car's "Check Engine" light kept going on and off. I had already been to a shop which charged me $80 to do a diagnostic scan, and then told me that I would need to get my oxygen sensors and catalytic converter replaced. The dealership quoted me $400 for the repair on just the oxygen sensors. I called up Southbay Folkscraft (after finding the shop on this website), and he told me to go ahead and stop by. I did, he ran a scan (at NO CHARGE), and told me that it was indeed my catalytic converter, but not the oxygen sensors. Lucky for me, I just received an extended warranty from VW of America for the catalytic converter! The owner of the shop then told me which Dealership would be the most trustworthy one to go to. I was so happy, and so impressed with him!! He could've told me that i needed the O2 sensors changed, and taken my money, but he didn't!! I wanted to be able to get some work done just because he was so outstanding!! Instead, he replaced my broken hubcaps with some that he had sitting around the shop, changed the tail light i was having trouble getting to, and all for the most reasonable fee ever! It seemed too good be be true, but it wasn't!! I was so excited, I already told 3 VW owning friends of mine about him!! Woo hoo!! I'm so glad I listened to my dad and found Southbay Folkscraft!!!
