I have owned two Peugeot 405s. The first one was rear- ended and totaled shortly after I had the engine gone through at the Peugeot authorized dealer, to the tune of $3800! So, after settlng with the insurance company, I bought back the car, and lamented my predicament to Pierre, at Custom Auto Works, with whom I had become acquainted, since they had begun to repair this car shortly before the accident. He responded by saying that he would not recommend to repair my car, but saying, "Jack, look at this- we just got this car in, and I bought it. It has a blown engine (the famous Peugeot 405 oil-burning rings). Why don't you call me after my vacation (one month back to France), and we'll work something out." Well, I did call, and decided to buy the second 405 from him, and he transferred my good engine into the second car, and by the way, the second car was auto while my first was stick, and there was a difference of two years in manufacture, which did lead to several difficulties. Nevertheless, he called me within five days of my giving him the ok, the car being ready, and I've driven it without any problems for 2 years. So, I think he is very good. And I do have a lot of mechanical experience and a garage full of tools. Also, for the record, this shop is located in Marin County, famous as one of the most wealthy per-capita areas of the United States, and Pierre and Custom Auto Works have no shortage of customers willing to pay top dollar but wanting the best service. Thus, its a bit unusual, that money matters less than in other shops. Nevertheless, he has been very fair with me, and charged me less than the flat-rate for many jobs he's done for me. He replaced the heater radiator and the lower front suspension and sway bar bushings at a most reasonable cost. He has professionally-trained mechanics who go to school for, as an example, Peugeot ZF auto. transmissions. Not your ordinary wrenchers, but real pros. I would recommend this shop for any repairs to any car brand that one could own.
