Mike is an excellent mechanic who always seems to test (and usually find) the simplier, less expensive solutions to problems. Although my work no longer takes me to Burlingame, I still take my car down there from S.F. to get work on it done by Mike.

I recently needed a smog certification done. I was planning to drop it off, take the train to work, then take the train back to Burlingame in the afternoon to pick up my car. When Mike heard my plan, he found the time to get it done while I waited. I went over to the coffe shop, had some breakfast, and returned to pay the bill and go to work! Mike is friendly, sincere, a real person. I highly recommend him. I happen to have a Volvo, but I don't think he limits his work to Volvos. He seems to have a contented and spirited staff. The place is perfect for train commutes, being right next to the Broadway station. Mechanically Speaking was recommended to me by someone who works on his own cars. When he can't do it, he takes it to Mike.

Mike and his staff were thorough in doing their work and explaining their work. This has been a great find ... convenient, courteous and complete.

Mike, the owner of Mechanically Speaking loves his job. The folks in this shop are TOTALLY honest and give you the information straight. Sometimes I think this is Mike's hobby because he likes it so much. Pick any car and any problem and Mike will probably know about it and want to work on it. He sees repairing a vechile from the 360 degree point of view. I've referred friends there with VW and Alpha Romeo's. My friends are still my friends and they've brought their friends, which is a good sign! As an added bonus, Mike loves/sells electric scooters and got me hooked on my first one! Great guy, great service! Rob

My 88 Camry needed new exhaust pipes and muffler. I decided to try Mechanically Speaking after reading the reviews on this site. My impression of Mike is that he is very honest. When I told him over the phone that I needed an entire exhaust system, he asked me, "Who told you you need all that?" How many machanics would ask a question like that? After inspecting my car, he recommended using Toyata parts, which cost only $30 more but would last much longer. Places like Mineke and Midas would never suggest using OEM parts because they rely on repeat business. They give you a lifetime warranty on the cheapest muffer which costs less than 20 bucks and make money off labor. I installed the muffer on my car twice and know how much it costs. This is my fourth muffler in 6 years. Had I used Toyota parts the first time. I would have never needed another one. I believe Mike thinks in the best interest of his customers and not just trying to make a quick profit. And he charged me exactly what he quoted me. I cannot really comment on other things such as their competency etc because a exhaust pipe replacement job is straitforward. But next time my car needs repair, I would definetely go back to Mike.

It's a real pleasure dealing with Mike Mercado. He takes a genuine interest in you and your car, and is happy to take the time needed to discuss different repair options and give good advice about what to do. He's very knowledgeable, and obviously spends a lot of time keeping up with the latest developments, but he doesn't pretend to know everything. His charges are reasonable. Before stopping by, I called around town and priced a repair job, and then found his quote to be on the low end, and significantly below the dealership. He went out of his way to accomodate my needs, and delivered exactly what he had promised. If you're looking for a mechanic you can talk with and trust, Mike is your man.

I cannot recommend Mike highly enough. My wife and I have had him work on 4 of our vehicles over the past 8 or 9 years, and we have never had a bad experience. Mike is a fantastic mechanic, but a very reasonable guy as well. He'll tell you what you need to worry about, and what you can put off (and for how long!). He is about creating long-term customers. I have recently moved from the bay area, and I even called Mike from the road, to ask him about a potential issue I was having with my car, AS I WAS DRIVING! I owe Mike my gratitude, and would recommend ANYONE in the bay area who is looking for the last mechanic they'll ever need, give Mike a call. His shop is right next to the Burlingame train station, and just down from the Milbrea bart station, so very convienent. Good Luck!

Didn't want to take my '02 Jeep Wrangler to the dealer. Found Mike through the Internet and everything that is said is true. Explained everything to me in detail and got it fixed. Thanks Mike! I plan on using him again. No more dealer!

After having a bad experience at the dealer shop, I took my car to see Mike for a second opinion. I had never met him before, but had gotten a good recommendation from a co- worker. This was my first visit and it was a GREAT experience. When I explained my problem to him, he was a good listener and wanted to help me solve my problem. He reviewed the dealer's diagnostic report and recommendations and was able to point out ways to take care of my needs without the outrageous price tag. He took time to drive around with me in the car and even helped me set up a smog check. He explained things in detail, clearly, and was emphathetic. He is very personable, approachable, and knowledgeable. I highly recommend him!!!

have been taking my old 84 Camaro to Mike at Mechanically speaking for over 15 yrs! Whenever I had a problem he would give me a honest idea of what was going on. I totally trust Mike! The first time I ever called him, he immediately knew that my car had a certain kind of radio, not common, lol! I don't drive my car very much and it failed a smog, recently! Very upset that I might have to "surrender" my beloved car...I called Mike.... to ask him what to do? It was decided that I bring my car in, and he would check it according to the smog results it appeared to be something simple. Mike checked the car and with a few adjustments and needed maintenance(oil change) car passed! He even took to the smog place for me!!!! I am forever grateful! I would never consider any other mechanic unless I moved from the area! Over the years I've had to have my car towed to Mechanically Speaking after hours. No worries, everything is taken care of. Mike does everything for his clients to make it as easy as possible to get anything done on your car. My car is old/vintage so some parts are hard to get, and Mike has always been forthright what any expenses might be. Mike also has a reverence for older vehicles, he doesn't have that, "its a old car get rid of it" mentality, and he can fix a older car with minimal expense if possible. I can only speak of Mechanically speaking in the highest regard! I trust Mike and he knows all his clients cars, and he will not RIP you off!!!!! He is trustworthy and I wouldn't take my car anywhere else for repairs. He answers the phone himself, and his premises is spotless unlike some mechanical places. I ♥ Mechanically speaking and I am a client 4 ever!
