I had a noise coming from my A/C compressor and my local
shop suggested Alouis Radiator to do the work. I dropped the
car off at 7:30am when they opened. They have a $110
inspection charge (one hour of labor) that you don't pay if
they do the repair work.
I got a call less than an hour later. They told me I had a
few options. They could take the A/C belt off if I could
live without A/C. Otherwise, they would take the compressor
off and check to see if it could be repaired (the A/C clutch
was the problem). Otherwise, it would need a new A/C
compressor. I told them to replace the A/C compressor if
necessary (usually if the clutch goes, the compressor isn't
far behind). I called them up at 3pm and they said they
were having trouble finding a part, but it just came in and
the car would be ready at 5pm.
I headed over at 5pm and the car wasn't ready yet, but they
were staying late to get it done (nice!). 20 minutes later, the
car was completely fixed.
The price was reasonable (labor rates are high in San
Francisco generally and the parts prices were good). They
were friendly and responsive when I called. Overall, I'm
quite happy with the work they did and would recommend them
to others.
