They are specialized in European cars. Lots of Porsche restaurations, BMWs, Mercedes, etc. Prices are EXTREMELY reasonable (I am a regular customer and they do lots of minor stuff for free, too). Mechanics are certified. Highly recommended!

It's so hard to find an honest, affordable and competent mechanic these days. John and his guys are just that. They work on every make but their specialty are Porsches which they also restore. I have brought my cars there 20+ times and their work has always been competent, honest and affordable. If you are on a budget they will try to find affordable fixes for you, which even include used parts, trips to the junk yard, etc.

I called John after the lights on my 2005 Prius stopped working. I had planned to take it to the Toyota dealership, because I had checked the fuses and was worried about a major electrical problem, but the Toyota dealer wouldn't even look at the car without a $100+ fee. I called him at 1:30, and he said, "How about 2:00?" My boyfriend and I brought it in, estimating how much of our paychecks this electrical fault would take up. We drove our Prius into a yard filled with older Porsches and Mercedes in various states of repair with a couple of stunners in the shop (love that white '73!), and John came right out. He had our "Major electrical" diagnosed in no time flat- it was two burned out lights, which he replaced in a jiffy. While he was at it, he took off the rear door cover and replaced the license plate bulb, one of which had burned out. He was fast, friendly, and charged us a fraction of what we had been afraid our problem would cost. They may specialize in Porsches and German cars, but they did just fine with our Prius. Two new customers for life!!

The "Check Engine" light went on in my Audi A3 AT 52,000 MILES, 2,000 miles out of warranty. I went to the Audi dealer who told me it would be $150 just to diagnose the problem. I then looked up Modern Auto Tech on this site and found all of the great reviews. I called John who diagnosed the problem for free, explained the problem and the fix and fixed it the next day for $182 total. He showed me the bad part. He also told me my oil was very dirty. It had been changed supposedly at the dealer at 49,000 miles. Clearly, it had not been changed. John showed me the dirty oil - no question it had not been changed. Can't recommend this shop highly enough!

After a long battle with a car wash over fixing the knocked off hood ornament on my Mercedes, I was referred to Modern Auto Tech in Pasadena. The car wash told me they would replace the star and paint the scratches on the hood, but they preferred that I take it to one of their two shops either in Canoga Park or San Clemente. I told the car wash folks it made no sense to drive my car 55 miles to paint the hood when I could walk around the corner and get it done locally. After a few months of battling back and forth, they finally suggested I take it to Modern Auto Technology in Pasadena. It seemed reasonable. Not too far from my house in Los Feliz and surely if they were paying for the repair, I, in good faith, would work with them. Their lot is exactly as described in an earlier review, a museum of beautiful cars in various states of repair. A classic Ford truck, several Porsches, a Mercedes or two, a throaty Ferrari on a rack and other pieces of cars around make the perfect setting for a Discovery channel show. John introduced himself and looked at the car and assured me that they would do an excellent job on the hood damage. They have a paint bay and all the trimmings to accompany their full service repair facility. I was having some brake shudder completely unrelated and asked John if, while he was doing the hood, he could put on new rotors and pads. I would supply the parts and he gave me a fair and reasonable price for the labor. As I waited for the brake parts to arrive, driving to breakfast the next morning, I heard a momentous thud from the back left section of the car. The rear window regulator broke and we were driving with a permanently open back window. Another call to the parts store replaced the window regulator so with a box of parts and few days to spare, I drove up to Modern and turned over the keys. I told John I was in no rush, to please take his time and he promised me he would get to it as soon as he could. In less than three days, John and his crew painted and sanded and clear coated the hood, replacing the Mercedes Star and holder. I had a few dings around the car and they color sanded what they could. The e320 Mercedes I have has headlights that fog and dull over time and John and his boys sanded and clear coated those. They installed the pads and rotors, replaced the serpentine belt, and fixed a bulb in the trunk that was blinking intermittently. Oh -- and I needed a new battery, too. The work was all OUTSTANDING! I would recommend John and his company to anyone who wants quality car repair and stellar customer service. The price was extremely fair -- I can't believe cars aren't lined up around the block to get in to see them. This is one of those places that is such a tremendous discovery I hate for anybody but my close friends to know. But the truth is their workmanship and passion for what they do is so fantastic everyone who has a car they love and want running should take it to John, period. Thank you John. You are my new mechanic, indeed.

I am one happy customer. John gave me an accurate estimate of the work to be done, gave me some options on things that could be addressed a couple different ways, and got the car back to me when he said he would. I had a number of dings and scrapes fixed in an expert manner at a very reasonable price. The mechanics also checked out the car and performed some minor maintenance as well. All in all, very happy, will use Modern again and will recommend them to my friends.
