I brought my car in with a loud exhaust system, an engine stalling problem, and a crooked steering wheel. I also asked them to look over the car to make sure it was safe to drive. (I am approaching 140k miles.) The owner, Harold, disgnosed the following problems: I needed a new muffler and the front brakes were unsafe. He had straightened the stearing wheel, rotated the wheeels, and checked the spark plugs as well. He quoted me prices for the muffler and brakes, and he encouraged me to compare the prices with a muffler and brake shop. He said that he uses quality parts, and the price was only around 10% more than the cheaper shop. He showed me the brakes when he was done, and they were badly corroded. I also asked him about a high frequency squeel on the radio which I had asked several car audio people previously. He had the most intelligent recommendations to diagnose the problem that I had heard. I higly recommend this shop. I am (a woman) very satisfied with the work and respectful treatment I received at this shop.

I first dealt with these folks over 20 years ago when I lived in Mt View. They were great - did two total engine rebuilds and lots of minor stuff. Then I moved over to Half Moon Bay. Recently started working in Mt View and discovered they were still in business - but now Harald (who was a young man working for his dad back then) was running things. But somethings never change. They (Harald) are the most honest and competent mechanics I've ever found. They do no more than is needed, never try to 'sell'. I totally trust Harald and think they are just the best.

I've been bringing my 2003 Volkswagen Passat to Palo Alto German Car Corp. since I moved to the area in 2006. The owner, Harold, is competent and knowledgeable about Volkswagen models from any year and always calls during the day to let me know how the service is going and to describe any problems that they have found during their work. (I go in about once a year.) When a boot of mine needed replacement, he was quick to show me the broken part and to explain why it needed replacing, which is a sure sign of an honest mechanic. Their hourly labor cost is a little higher than a generic shop's, but, then again, my car has never given me trouble while it's been under his care. In all, I've had 3 minor problems since I bought this car - my brake pads needed replacement, my skid plate came off, and my right boot tore - but in all 3 cases, my car has been back to me by the end of the day, which I can definitely appreciate! On the other hand, this is definitely a smaller shop, so you won't get a loaner car when you bring yours in.
