Dave is THE guy here. Not only does he talk to me, a female, as if I were (and I am!) capable of understanding the problem with my car, he goes above and beyond the call of repair duty. For example, I recently brought in a part I had bought to fix my driver's side window regulator, which, after ten years, was just about to die. I also had a problem with the driver's side lock, which was refusing to open or close from the outside (it still worked if closed from the inside). Dave not only installed the window regulator but took the lock out and walked it a block down to the local locksmith, where he had them redo the lock. I didn't even ask him to do this! He knew about it because I called him earlier to ask what he would charge to take the thing out and remove the "wafers", which the guy at the locksmith place had told me would fix the problem without compromising security too much, and with a 10-year old car, that's not a big issue. Dave suggested I just bring it in and he would try this mechanic's product he had and he took the time off from what he was working on to try this out, and indeed, he got the lock working so that it could at least be opened, if not locked, from the outside. So, bottom line, Dave is very professional, honest, doesn't try to sell you something you don't need, completes the work in a timely manner. You can't go wrong! The prices for some things are perhaps a bit higher than for somewhere located in a less-better neighborhood, but you get first rate quality work done. And I tried a shop that did my front brakes for about $80 less and it was not worth it. They did not guarantee their work and the brakes were already shot a year later. So, I recently had the front and rear brakes done by Dave and Co. and felt very confident about the quality of work. And if you live in the neighborhood, you can drop the car off in the a.m., take the commuter bus to work (if you work in San Francisco) and pick up your car after work.
