I used Montclair for my Volvo repairs after being scammed at a local dealer (they told me I needed the wrong $900 part and that I couldn't get it used--a junkyard told me what part I really needed and put me on to Montclair). They were always incredibly thorough in the work on my car, had it finished when they said they would, never overcharged me, and, what I appreciated most, was that they would tell me just what my car needed, but also told me what was really essential to do then and what could wait and pointed out the things that could be repaired, but wouldn't really matter if I didn't. I am a woman and appreciated their honest and unpatronizing manner. They treat all of their customers the same and do fabulous work on your car. I never had a problem with the work they did and their quotes were always right around the total amount paid and called me if they found something that needed to be fixed before they fixed it!

On a cross country trip recently, my Volvo transmission warning light came on. Looking for a mechanic on this website, I called Sal at Montclair Tech. The work was completed quickly--it turned out to be a severed wire that ended up sending an eroneous message to the computer--so I was on my way in less than an hour. They were honest, knowledgable, and fair. They even spoke to my mechanic in CT about the repair. If I lived in the area, these would be my mechanics.

The Check Engine Light came on in our 2000 Volvo S70 GLT. Set forth below is what the dealer (McKevitt in Berkeley) told us vs. what Ali at Montclair did: Dealer: Must replace Master Air Flow Sensor - $540 Montclair: Agreed. Replaced for - $344 Dealer: Must replace ABS Control Unit - $920 Montclair: Wanted to 2x check connections b/c faulty connection could set off that check engine warning; if this work needed, would be $781. Confirmed no problem w/ unit & no need to replace! Dealer: Ignition Switch - Despite raising w/ Dealer while car under extended warranty, they told my wife not to worry about it, then after out of warning, said must replace for $690. Montclair: Agreed should be replaced; will be ~$500 Dealer: Our car has $103k and I inquired about the 105k Service; I'd like to replace the water pump while they have everything opened up. Dealer's price for all that was ~$1,700! Model Garage: (I stopped by there on way to dealer) $1,300 w/ water pump change. Montclair: $1,000 (price includes changing water pump). Ali also recommended I wait until the car is actually at $105k since there's no point spending that much money prematurely. Ali is awesome! Montclair will have our Volvo business from this point forward.

I have used these folks for a couple of years and they have always been fair and honest with me. I don't have a lot of money but I try and keep up with all essential maintenance and repairs. Ali helps me prioritize what needs to be done when and he seems to help keep prices as low as possible.

Ali runs a great shop - reliable and trustworthy. In addition, he takes time to explain the problem, as well as the work needed to fix the issue.

Ali and his team know Volvo's extremely well, they do excellent work, and are fairly priced -- especially compared to many of those other specialty Volvo outfits.
