No specific anecdote, except for the time he spotted in 5 minutes a problem that was causing me to fail a smog test, which a Mazda dealer hadn't found after 3 attempts and $700. It's just a grand place to deal with. Rick, Laura and the whole crew are friendly, helpful and dedicated to giving excellent service, and they have the talent to back it up. As an old broad who has had to deal with some good ol' boys, I have much experience in being treated like a dimwitted and ignorant nuisance. Never happens at P R. They tell you in detail what's wrong, show you if it's appropriate, give you an informed opinion if there's a question of how -- or whether -- to fix it, and get you in and out as soon as possible without sucking everything but the lint from your wallet.

* Everything we discussed (including quotes for future repair) was typed into my record and therefore on my receipt * They don't do tire mount and balance in house. But they were very up front about it. * Included an extra quart of oil in the trunk "just in case" * Lots of Miata's in the garage. Mine felt at home. * Worth the "remote" (if you're on the Peninsula) location in Hayward * forums recommend these guys and nobody else in the SF Bay Area. I concur.

I brought my 87 Mazda 323 to Rick at PR Motorsports after another shop screwed up. The shop I had taken it to previously could not find their own mistake. I told Rick that my car was not running properly since I took it to the other shop. I also had a problem with overheating (unrelated). Rick immediately found the source of poor running- reversed vacuum lines- and then found the cause of overheating. He switched the vacuum lines at no charge and ordered the necessary parts to fix the overheating. It was a Friday and he said parts would not be in till Monday- so he offered to put my car back together so I could have it over the weekend. When the parts came in he installed them for me at no charge. When all was said and done, Rick only charged me the initial estimate fee for labor- which was $30. The rest of the money I paid him was for parts. The part I liked the most about PR Motorsports is that Rick took it upon himself to check out other things in my car that I had not complained about. He told me what would need to be replaced soon, what could be put off, and what was entirely unnecessary. He was very honest with me. If you drive a Mazda and you live in the Hayward area- GO TO PR Motorsports- You'll

They genuinely seem to like working on cars. They always have time to answer questions.

I used to own a 1985 RX7 which they worked on and when I bought the Acura, I took it to them as they also work on Honda and Acuras. They fixed the handbrake without my telling them about it, something the local Acura dealer had failed to do after being told about it. It's a bit of a pain to get there, but they do good work and are very friendly.

They rebuilt an engine for my rx7. They discouraged me from getting several expensive, (and profitable for them), modifications that would not have resulted in any signifigant improvement of the cars performance. They worked with me and were very responsive in podt engine installation adjustments.

They were able to fix several problems on my Acura Legend that the dealer did not seem to be able to fix. In addition, they kept my old Mazda Rx7 going when I really should have given up on it.

I have never found a mechanic I fully trusted (expertise and honesty) until I visited PRMotorsports. After researching potential candidates on (for my Miata, go figure) I came across PRMotorsports a number of times. I trialed them with a visit for an oil change and have never gone anywhere else since. Very knowledgeable, better than any mechanic I have ever met and they really know Miata's (the owner has raced for Fly'in Miata and others and the two other mechanics have been there for on the order of 15 years each, or something along those lines). I am not saying they are the cheapest around (they are not) nor are they that convenient to the South Bay since there is no good public transportation from Hayward. That said, I have never found a team this good for my Miata and they are very friendly and open (they have no problem showing you exactly what they are referring to, taking the time to explain items in detail and many times have recommended I not fix an issue that could wait). Furthermore, it is not just me and my charming personality, I have seen how they treat others (men and women) and was very impressed. My only true regret is that they do not work on Passats (I cannot find a good VW mechanic anywhere, it is depressing).

I first brought my 1985 RX-7 GSL-SE to P.R. Motorsports when I bought it in about 1993 or 1994. A friend had raced RX-7s and swore by Rick and his crew. Though it wasn't exactly convenient (I live in Oakland) to bring my car to an industrial park in Hayward, I was so impressed with their knowledge and the quality and value of their work, along with the family atmosphere, that I found it well worth the hassle. After 5 or 6 years (and 222,000 miles) I sold my Mazda and bought a Nissan 300ZX. I loved the car, but was bummed that P.R. didn't work on Zs and I had to find another mechanic. Recently I retired the Z (with 225,000 miles) and found a 2001 Miata Special Edition with less than 20,000 miles! There was no question where I was going to take it for servicing. I called P.R. and was glad to hear Laura answer the phone. Though it had been more than seven years, she and Rick remembered me immediately. I was also happy to hear that Hector was still there. I brought my new Miata in for a general going over and a cold air intake mod. Nothing had changed. Still great people doing great work at more than competitive prices. The mechanic who worked on my Z also works on Mazda's, but I wouldn't dream of taking my Miata anywhere else but P.R. Motorsports. I can't recommend them highly enough.
