John Lyons, the owner, has 35+ years of experience, specializing in foreign cars. He was highly recommended to me some 20 years ago by a local Lutheran minister. I tried him out and have been very pleased with his servicing of my cars for the last 20 years. He has kept two of my current vehicles in excellent running order during all of those 20 years (1967 VW Beetle [245,000 miles] and 1967 VW Westphalia Camper Bus [180,000 miles]) and as I have added vehicles over the years (currently I also have a 1971 VW Squareback, a 1984 Honda Accord and a 1987 Nissan Maxima [235,000 miles]) he has maintained those excellently as well, including several engine and transmission rebuilds. His integrity, quality of workmanship, attention to detail and ability to explain the problem in clear English is superb. He impresses me as highly intelligent and has good people skills. He usually gets it right the first time, and if he doesn't he keeps after the problem until he does fix it. He personally reviews the servicing and almost always personally test drives every car before it leaves the shop. His downside is that as it is a small shop, work does not always get completed when he expects it to. Also, his customer waiting area lacks the latest magazines. These are small inconveniences that are easy to live with.

We have a 1998 Winnebago Rialta 22' motorhome. It is built on a VW Eurovan chassis. We bought the motorhome used, and were so relieved to find a local mechanic who could work on it for us. When we bought it 1 1/2 years ago it had 50,000 miles on it, and now we have nearly 70,000. J&K have kept it on the road, and us safe, during all those miles. We have had the usual problems, plus the major maintenance needs, and have found them to be honest and helpful every time they have had to make repairs. They seem to really care about trying to keep us from being stranded on the road someplace on the continent. It seems rare today to find someone who not only knows what they are doing, but does it with care and goes out of their way to make sure the repair is right.

J & K Automotive has worked on several vehicles that I have owned for over 20 years. I keep going back to them as their work has resulted in a sense of trusting what they say and good results from the work they do. Their prices are reasonable and they do not do unnecessary work to boost their profits. I've taken cars to them that were potential purchases and they did a thorough job of inspection for me.

I've found working with J&K to be straightforward with the work done in a timely manner. John has usually made an attempt to explain what he THINKS might be the problem during the initial visit and from there assesses the cost of repair. Repairs have always been successful and the final repair costs approximated the initial projection. J&K may not be the cheapest shop in Fortuna, but if you want a reliable and timely repair, it's where you go.
