I've had very few repairs, per se, done by Marty (the owner and currently the
only mechanic at Mostly Foreign) in recent years because he's taken such
good care of our cars for 20 years that they've rarely needed anything special
done beyond regular maintenance. My current car is not quite seven years
old and has had very little done to it--a battery replaced, a blown bulb, a
loose wire, a sensor that made my dashlight go on alarmingly, but Marty
tracked it down for me and hardly charged me more than the cost of the part.
I couldn't say about how he responds to something screwed up, because I
don't remember his doing so. If something is beyond his expertise, he will
say so. As for treating male and female customers the same, I can only judge
by my late husband and myself, and he was the same soft-spoken, quietly
friendly guy with both of us, as far as I could tell. He marks a sticker in the
upper corner of the windshield that reminds me at what mileage point I need
the next maintenance done, and he checks the car out thoroughly each time
he works on it and warns me if I'm likely to need something in the near
future, including tires, which he doesn't sell. He used to give me a ride home
and pick me up when the car was finished, but since he moved his business
recently, he now just picks up my car and returns it. We didn't know Marty
when we first took our cars to his former shop, but he has become a trusted
friend over the years. After my husband died and I no longer needed two
cars, he bought my 12-year-old Toyota EZ, knowing that, despite the cracked
and faded interior and the less than pristine exterior, he could easily sell it as
the working parts had been well-maintained--by him--throughout it's well-
over-100,000 miles.

We have used Marty for years now and the best part about
working with him is he doesn't do unnecessary work. If
it's not needed or if a "cheap" fix will work, he doesn't
try to upsell to do more expensive work. Very trustworthy.
