They are very friendly, willing to explain things fully. They are concerned about environmental and community issues. They issue a periodic newsletter to customers in which they include profiles of customers and the cars they drive.

I had taken my 1989 Volvo 244 DL to the dealer I'd always used for service and was told that they had found many problems and I needed to have $3000 worth of service done immediately. I said no to that and decided I would buy a new car instead. When I determined I wanted a Prius but couldn't take delivery for 3-4 months, I took my Volvo to Ackerman's for a second opinion. Bruce was great. He was patient and friendly and they did the work while I sat in their waiting area. He and a mechanic checked out each item the dealer told me needed repair and found no evidence that repair was needed. I ended up not buying a new car, took my Volvo back in 6 months to Ackerman's for service, and am happy to say that my Volvo now runs like it did when it was new.

Bruce and his mechanics are personable and professional. They have always done a good job with our two Volvos. We sought them out after having problems with the local Volvo dealer's less than honest service department. My two gripes with this shop are 1) they tend to repeatedly bring up items that they feel should be fixed that are probably not critical (i.e., convenience switches); 2) they are just as pricey as the dealership. That said, not having to deal with the local dealership is worth it, and Bruce is a very nice guy.
