I couldn't answer that public transportation question. Not a clue. So an anecdote. My boyfriend needed to borrow my car to move something too large to fit in his CRX, like a chihuahua. Anyway, I take his car to my church job on Sunday morning, park, and pull up the emergency brake. No resistance. Anyone who thinks men take better care of their cars than women do...well anyway...I took it in to Jeff. He poked around under the car for a while and then removed the cover from one of the rear wheels. He pulled out this little springy thing, squirted it with some stuff, twisty twisty, stuck it back in and charged me next to nothing. Apparently those cars have some sort of self-adjusting brake tension thing. We live near the beach and it was encrusted with salt, which prevented it from self-adjusting. All I knew going in was that it was a brake problem and I'd never have known if I was standing in a pile of horse apples when he gave me the diagnosis. There are many more stories like this and i have referred many satisfied customers.

A friend referred me to Jeff's about five years ago. I've taken my car there off/on since then (along with all of my work colleagues) and have recommended him to several friends who have moved to the area. Jeff is the only honest mechanic that I've found in the 12 years that I've owned a car. He doesn't fix something that isn't broken. He doesn't try to gouge you with other repairs that are supposedly necessary. He tries to find used or rebuilt parts when possible. He often will make minor repairs for little or no charge (broken car lights, checking the charge on a battery, etc.). In short, car repairs are traumatic, but Jeff's honesty, good mechanics, and fair (way below market value) prices make the whole experience of dealing with a car repair almost enjoyable. With Jeff, you don't have to worry about 1) the repair and 2) the dishonest mechanic. You just know that your car is in good hands and that the problem will get fixed fairly, correctly, and for a reasonable price. I HIGHLY recommend Jeff's Service Center -- to the point that I don't want to move away from the area because I'll lose one of the rare honest mechanics (and nice people) in the world.

I hired a babysitter to stay with my kids since we only have one car and it desperately needed service and an oil change. When I drove up, I hoped I would return before dark. This is a dingy neighborhood. That place was so dirty, when I petted the scary-looking but amiable dogs nosing around, my hand came away black. They spend no money on frills and may have a few outdated girlie calenders up, but they are honest, hard-working and very low-priced. They don't open until 9 a.m., but they do offer loaners.

The first time I went to Jeff's, I looked for an auto repair service recommended at Car Talk in my area and found him. I took my 1998 Honda Civic to Jeff's to check the overheat signal in July, 2009. Jeff took a good twenty minutes under the hood, discovering the problem, fixing the problem, and sending me off without any charge for his time, expertise, or repair work. Three months later, I went to Jeff's, because my car had died in rush hour morning traffic, and the triple A tow truck driver couldn't get it started again. I had him tow it to Jeff's, and in a day or so, I had my car back running again. My daughter also has a 1998 Honda Civic, and when her car started shaking and rattling, she took it to Jeff's and had the motor mounts replaced. Each visit, we have been more than comfortable with (honest, no frills, and no upcharges) trustworthy service. Jeff also advised us what work and expenses we should anticipate for upcoming repairs that he recommended.

My husband and I have been bringing our cars to Jeff since 2001, since finding him as a referral from your website. He didn't have Internet and had no idea he was even on here! Anyway, as other people have said, Jeff is amazingly honest and when he tells us what's wrong and what's needed, we don't even have to think about it. His prices are really fair and we feel great bringing our cars to him. I've recommended him to a friend who lives in Irvine (a neighborhood much nicer than where Jeff's Garage is) and she's hooked on him too now. I cannot recommend him highly enough!

Always fair prices, always explains the work that needs to be done and the expected prices. Will walk you through a situation if you break down and will do his best to get you on the road again. One of the last honest businessmen, mechanics out there.
