I happened to find myself on the Massachusetts Turnpike West at about 11 this past Saturday, and remembered suddenly that the entire population of Connecticut and New York choose that day to evacuate Cape Cod. Summer is vacation time, and in America, that means driving by car. You can pinpoint almost the exact date when Americans started to take to the highway on vacation.
