I first went to this shop on the recommendation of a co- worker. I generally trust her, and she said that she had been bringing her car(s) there for years, but I was more than a little dubious when I saw the place. Desert Dog sort of looks like a junkyard, and I would never have gone near it. However, they've been amazing - their prices are always more than reasonable, they have been able to fix anything, and sometimes the bill comes to less (!) than the estimate if it turns out to be easier than they thought. Maybe they seem to pass along whatever savings they get on crummy- looking facilities to customers. It's a little inconvenient arranging for a friend to pick me up and drop me off when I need to leave my car, but it's pretty well located (even though there's barely any parking lot. The hours are a bit of a problem - they're open 8-5 (though they'll stay open a few minutes longer if you ask.) I've taken my Mazda and my parent's Oldsmobile Regency there for work on air conditioning, brakes, alternator, tune-ups and oil changes - they've always done a great job.

My Jeep had leaky seal(s) and the dealer said four of them had to be replace at a significant cost. DesertDog replaced only what was needed (two seals) at one-third the dealer estimate. One year later I am still drip-free! DesertDog also performed some steering and window repairs at a VERY reasonable cost. These guys are competent (versus the dealer who has screwed things up more than three out of six times), thorough, fast, all at a reasonable cost. Which makes them a GREAT value.
