After hearing the typical horror stories about mechanics and how they treat women, I was a little nervous about having my car worked on ANYWHERE. Then the day came when it was absolutely unavoidable. I needed to have my timing belt replaced (and FAST!). Before I had always gone to those 10 minute oil job places (you know, where you're a dollar sign, not a person) so I was expecting pretty much the same thing when my boss referred me to Tanque Verde Exxon. When I got there, the mechanic who was to work on my car explained to me what he was going to do, and how much it wold cost (before the work was done!!!). He went ahead with the repair, and while I was waiting, another one of the mechanics came into the lobby and offered me a drink (at no charge!). I accepted, and started to think about how painless this really was. When the gentleman who replaced my timing belt came back in, he sat down in the chair next to me and showed me my bill. It was completely itemized! He pointed out the work that he had done, what it had cost, and he also showed me a section where recommended repairs where noted. He didn't even try to push me to get them! All he said was that these were the repairs my car would need sooner than later, and this is what I would be charged at his shop to have them done. Well, after a free refil on my free drink, I paid a bill that I found surprisingly reasonable (considering that a friend had offered to do it for almost 1 1/2 times the amount!) and made my next appointment to have some of the recommended repairs taken care of. I've now been a faithful customer at Tanque Verde Exxon for almost three years. Their battery warrenty is a fabulous deal!!! They treated me like a person, not a man, not a woman, and most importantly, not a $ !!!!

I had just been given a $1200 repair estimate at my oil change and broke up with my girl friend so I surmised that this was simply a bad week. I got a brainstorm and dialed in CarTalks email address for a second opinion(on the car, not my girlfriend). There I found a glowing report on Tanque verde Exxon. They made an appointment for the same week and when I arrived they saw me on time. Several mechanics crawled in and out of every nook and cranny of the auto and pronounced my Jeep not only sound, but exceptional for a car with 80,000 miles. They spent an hour, showed me all the repair items that were suggested by the other place, refused to say anything bad about them, which I appreciated, but stated flatly that only the most minor items needed attention which they took care of. When I asked for a bill, Jim(MGR) said we didn't do anything I can charge you for so there is no charge. Needless to say they received a couple of boxes of cookies from the local bakery yesterday. As for you guys, your not as dumb as you pretend to be and if I had a way, I would send youse a couple of boxes of cookies too. From the bottom of my heart....THANKS

Smart honest mechanics - what are the chances of that? That's what you'll find at Tanque Verde Exxon. They'll tell you if you don't need a repair. They charge fair prices for the high quality work they do. They routinely don't charge when they put time into diagnosing a problem whose solution is unclear or options expensive. I routinely recommend this station to my friends and family. I think their success is largely due to their excellent manager, Jim.

After taking our vehicle to multiple repair shops, including 3 dealerships, Tanque Verde Exxon swiftly and competently found the true source of a leak. The dealership that installed a new radiator almost 2 yrs. before had used the wrong-sized fitting, allowing tranny fluid to leak. Tanque Verde Exxon fixed it and didn't charge us at all. We plan to have them be our trusted mechanics from here on in.
