I love these guys!! For several years I took my 87 Honda Civic to them...as a poor college student. They once checked my brakes...told me I still had a good 5k left and to come back in a few months. And they didn't charge me. Sadly I moved away to California. Whenever I have any questions that isn't cleary conveyed to me by my new mechanic, I just call them up in Arizona...free, honest advice. Thanks Again!!!! Clare 93 Del Sol

Scottsdale location: These guys are great! They are always professional and not the least bit sleazy. I had a 9-13 year old accord, and they told me which problems were pressing and which I could nurse along. I got a new accord four years ago, and always took it there, as well. I just moved two hours away, but seriously considered continuing to take my accord there because they are so honest and I never was given any reason to question what they told me. Further, I never once even considered they might treat me differently because I'm a female and/or young-ish.

Have found them to be very honest and they are waaay more
reasonably priced than dealership. They will try to find
least expensive solution first to see if it solves problem.
Very happy to have found them from this site - cant beat
word of mouth.

AZ Auto Doctor's used to be known as Rick Hall's Auto
Doctor. They have this facility in Tempe, and another one
up in Scottsdale. (I've only used the one in Tempe, so I
can't really comment on the other facility.) I found these
guys on Car Talk two years ago and decided to give them a
try when the Honda dealership wanted to charge me an arm
and a leg for changing my brakes.
I've never regretted this decision.
The guys here have always been helpful and honest. I've
asked them to perform work for me and they've come back to
tell me I didn't need to do it. For example, when my
brakes were making noises, they told me the front brakes
needed to be replaced, but the rear brakes were good for
another 6 months to a year at least. They've kept track of
my car's history, and noted when the 6 months were up to
check my brakes again. Still didn't need to change them!
When I had a burned out light bulb, I went to a car parts
store and bought one myself. When I couldn't put it in, I
took it over to Auto Doctor's, and they put it in for me
for free!
I've never had to take my Honda back to them for any work
that they've done. Highly recommend them!

I, too, found AZ Auto Doctors through the Car Talk site
after dissatisfaction with the dealer and also only have
experience with the Tempe site. Have been very happy with
the service from both a mechanical and personal view. The
guys upfront always take the time to explain what needed
to be done and why, and go over expected repairs for the
future that I may need to anticipate. Have never felt
pressured to have unnecessary work done, unlike what I
used to experience with a Nissan dealership for my wife's
car. Perhaps only downside is they are not open weekends.

I took my 88 toyota pickup to them after the water pump
replacement by a different shop turned my truck from a well
running classic toyota with a weeping water pump into an
overheating poorly running truck I wanted to shoot by the
side of the road. I showed them the reciept from the
sub-optimal shop and told them about the way it has been
acting. They had it for a day and a half and it ran like the
good old days once again and did not overheat. I still need
to test it on a grade or under load but it appears to stay
cool. They were nice and even though thay basically had to
do the same job over again. When the slack-jawed mechanics
did the timing belt they had it off by one tooth. So that
was fixed too. They treat the ladies respectfully too I noticed.

I have a 1998 Honda Accord. I use to take it to the
dealership to have work done to it. I always got the run
around and they wanted to do more wotk on it than it
needed. Now I am a female that works at Auto Zone and I
know how a car works. I don't like to tell others this
because I like to see how they treat me as a minority
woman. AZ Auto doctors have always made me feel just as
important as the other person. I have told not only my
friends but customers that come through my store about
these guys. And I will continue to take my car to them.
