The engine 6.0 liter diesel engine in my '05 Ford Powerstroke diesel truck blew out after 115K light duty miles. The engine failure was due to a well known fatal flaw within these engines. I towed the truck to a Scottsdale Ford Dealer. I had the truck evaluated by them and was given a quote for $18,000. I inquired about Ford paying part of the repairs, due to the history of this engine. The dealerships service advisors looked me in the eyes and told me that the 6.0 liter was a super reliable engine and this was highly unusual to have any problems with it. I asked him why Ford had sued the manufacturer (International Harvester) over engine problems and why there were dozens of pages of internet discussions and articles about engine problems with this truck. They said that they weren't sure, but would ask Ford if there were any issues and if Ford would stand behind the product (they didn't, saying it was out warranty). I was preparing to part the truck out for salvage, because the engine repair costs plus the other well known problems (front end shimmy, fuel injection system... But then I was referred to Frank of Franks Automotive by a past customer. So I called and asked Frank for an over the phone quote. He called me back in a few hours with a quote less then half of the dealers quote. When I was having the truck towed away from the dealership I was warned by the service advisors "not to have repairs performed by anyone that is not factory trained on a technical engine like a diesel." Despite the dealerships 'warning', I took it to Frank. Frank replaced the engine for the exact price he quoted me and in half the time frame the dealer quoted. The engine replacement went perfectly, Frank is truly a master mechanic. It is true, that replacing a diesel engine is one of the more technical repairs that a mechanic can undertake. Frank performed far beyond my expectations and past experiences with dealerships. I highly recommend his shop for all of your repairs.
