Jim is a great mechanic. He only works on Toyotas. We have been using him for close to 20 years. He listens to what you have to say about the problem, asks questions to obtain more information. If he finds the job more involved that what he first estimated, he calls so you can decide how you want to proceed. He treats me as if I do have a brain in my head and doesn't do the "Now, little lady, don't you worry any. We'll take care of everything." (If there's one thing I do not like, it is being called "little lady." To me, it is demeaning.) Jim has worked us in when we had an emegency. He has refused payment, when he found the problem something simple, like a blown fuse or bad battery. We have never taken a car in and had to return within a couple of weeks with some new problem, like we had to do with a previous mechanic. Someone "killed" our Toyota van. (head on) We loved that van and wanted to get it repaired. Jim told us everything that needed to be done and said he could do all the work. However, he said if it were he, he wouldn't do it. With a wrecked vehicle, problems could arise down the line that could be dangerous. This could have meant some major money for him, but he gave us his honest opinion and feelings about the work involved. Needless to say, we let the van go. He is one of the reasons we always buy Toyotas. We don't know if we could find another mechanic as honest and knowledgeable as he is.

I have been taking my 93 Lexus and 02 Avalon to Jim for 5-plus years. All of the comments above apply, and I would like to add that Jim will tell you when a repair is unnecessary or assess it so that you can make the decision. Jim was referred to me by a friend who had dealt with Jim. He is very smart, courteous and fair.

I started using Jim after a friend recommended him many years ago. He is so easy to deal with--very forthright, no surprises. He will search to find the car's problem and then call to discuss it and give options regarding the repair. He always gives a price before doing work. When my car wouldn't run one day I took it to a nearby garage. They told me what they thought was wrong and told me it would cost $$$$$. I decided to pay the towing fee to get the car to Jim. He quickly figured out the problem--which was not the same as the first garage's diagnosis--and then explained the basis for the other garage's mis-diagnosis. The best part was that Jim's repair was a small fraction of the other garage's quote. One time he called to give me an estimate of the work to be done but then said if I was willing to wait another day he could get me a re-built part that would be much less. I'll keep buying Toyotas just so that I can deal with Jim.

After 20 years with my Honda Civic, I bought a "new" '94 Camry. After a couple of years, it developed brake problems that my usual garage tried but couldn't diagnose and repair. Yes, they gave up. I was so impressed with Jim that he makes me want to stick with Toyotas as long as he stays in business.

We've been taking vehicles to Jim for at least 20 years - probably more. We wouldn't take our Toyotas to any other mechanic. When looking for a new vehicle to buy, we always go back to Toyota because we know and trust Jim. He explains what needs to be done and offers options if there are any. We've always found his charges reasonable and fair, and he's very easy to talk to - pleasant and polite and knowledgeable. We've recommended him to several of our friends, and their experiences mirror ours. If you own a Toyota, you couldn't find a better mechanic.
