I once brought in an old Mercedes. The A/C was out. Red called a local German mechanic and told him the problem. The other mechanic told Red about replacement of actuators, vaccum lines, relays and many other parts which would have equalled or exceeded the value of the vehicle. Red pondered and made the repair with a direct wire and fuse to the clutch tied into the dashboard switch. It worked.

I discovered Red's through a friend's recommendation, and in the half-a-dozen times I have been to him(Red), I have never been disappointed. Red kept two high-mileage toyotas going for me when that was all I could afford! I was expecting the death certificate for my 86 Celica the last time I had it towed in - Red fixed an electrical problem and charged me $40. You wouldn't know it from the outside (it's kind of a run-down, junky looking place) but Red's is known in Mobile for quality work and customer satisfaction. Also, he looks kind of like a red-headed Santa Clause - the kids love him!

Goooood Folks! Red takes the time to explain things to you. Super honest and open about anything. Good prices. They have moved out to Bear Fork Rd.

Being a trusting fool, I found Red's Automotive using car talk's mechanic recommendation page. To my pleasant surprise, every good thing they said was true. I went in to Red's thinking that I needed a rear wheel bearing for my 1996 Ford Taurus Wagon. I brought it in late in the afternoon, and by the following morning Red had taken a listen and determined that it was the rear tires and not the bearing at all. He took the time to explain what I would and would not need at the tire shop, and didn't charge me for taking a look. He's earned a loyal customer, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Red's Automotive. The only caveat is that Red's isn't in the best neighborhood, so if you're dropping your car off, be sure that you have someone there to pick you up. You don't want to linger too long, esp in the evening. Don't let that deter you though. Red is the genuine article, a good guy who knows his business.

Red is the best mechanic I have ever used. He's probably short on formal education, but long on practical knowledge and can fix everything. His prices are always reasonable. Be prepared to stay and talk a while!

My family has been using Red for about 12 years. Despite the moves (he's been in three different locations since we first met...), things remain consistent at Red's--great service, promptness, honesty, and AMAZING PRICE! There have been instances where Red has charged us $40, $30, $20, $0! When referring people, I always ask how the heck he stay afloat because his rates are so, so, so incredibly low! Red always shoots you straight, would never cheat you, does what he says he's going to, and always asks about "your mom and them." Red will have my business until he shuts the place down.

I found Red's Automotive on the Car Talk website and decided to approach them for a second opinion after being given an inflated quote from another shop to repair a worn out wheel bearing. Red's was responsive to my needs and worked to fit a tight schedule while at the same time completing the job at about half the cost of the corporate competitor. I highly recommend Red's and will not hesitate to use them for future repair needs.
