these folks have kept my wife's 1981 fiat brava going for the last ten years. without a steady supply of parts this has gotten harder and harder to do. they are first rate mechanics, they charge a fair (if kind of high) price for their work, and they do the work well. mike does volvos and a number of other cars, louis is a jag specialist, and paul does porsches and other cars. they don't like working on japanese cars, but will for their regular customers. for some reason, they end up doing rebuild jobs on a lot of very expensive cars--i guess if you can afford to drive a $75,000 car you can't be bothered with changing or adding oil to the engine!

Recently fixed a problem that the dealer said would cost around $1000 for less than $80. And it was truly fixed.

We have a 1986 240GL, and the great folks at The Auto Shop have kept it going. We since have bought two more Volvos, a 1998 S70 and a 2005 S40, and we had them checked out before purchase by Mike and Fred. These folks have always been honest with us about what to expect from our cars; what is worth fixing and what is not. One time they had to tell us not to buy a 240 sedan that we were in love with. We trust these folks to tell us the truth. The nice thing about Mike is that he is so interested in what he is doing - he once took us into the shop to show us all the broken parts he took out of our 240 and what he had to do to replace them properly. He was just so excited about fixing the car. He has kept our car overnight in order to test it cold and at different times of the day in order to diagnose the problem. One time, when he couldn't figure out what was making that noise, he didn't charge us for his time. The truth is, a 20+ year old car makes some weird noises sometimes. Mike is quick to tell us if something is a safety issue or is just a convenience.

Mike is THE MAN! At least when it comes to Volvos. His was the 3rd garage I took my XC70 wagon to. For 2+ months my car needed a jump periodically 'cuz it wouldn't start. After 2 new batteries, a new extension belt & 4 courtesy AAA tows to 2 other garages, I took my car to Mike as a referral from a referral. He ran amp tests, keeping my car all weekend. By Monday he diagnosed the problem and the next day, had it fixed. He took time over the phone to update me on his progress, then on my last visit, showed the faulty part he removed. It turns out that the blower motor was draining my battery while my car idled. He was the one who figured that out. What could've been a $1200+ repair job turned into a $813 task. If that weren't enough, he encouraged me to pull my rental car into his garage while it was raining outside so that I could move my kid's car seat back into my wagon. As far as I'm concerned, put a giant S on his chest 'cuz he's my hero.
