I had a 1987 Ford Ranger the stick shift of which came off in my hand when i was on a camping trip. we jerryrigged it back together, left the camper we had pulled right where we had taken it off the hitch, and limped home, a 3.5 hour drive. when we got home, we pulled it right into the front door of Mel's Garage, got out, left them a note to call for information and hitched a ride from a friend. on explaining monday morning what had happened, their first question was, "didn't you get the recall notice on this?" like all good consumers overwhelmed by junk mail, i know i just threw it away without opening it. they pushed the truck into the garage and fixed it right then and there. they were very kind to me despite my stupidity. we live an hour away from his garage, but i will only go to Mel's. i keep the 100 mile towing benefit with AAA in case i have a serious problem. i heartily recommend Mel's Garage to anyone.
