We'd been told by a local Honda dealership that we needed to replace the master cylinder and both rear cylinders on our 140,000+ mile car. Something made us feel taken advantage of, so we took it to Import Auto Clinic for a second opinion. Harry took the car for a test drive and went over it with a fine-toothed comb. He told us what he'd found, explained it all, and prioritized what was critical and what could afford to wait. He also informed us that the rear brake cylinders were fine, except for the fact that some yo-yo had broken off the bleeder valves! (The dealership guys never told us that -- they just said the cylinders needed replacing.) We fixed what needed to be fixed pronto (master brake cylinder) and will budget for some of the non-critical-but-good-idea stuff later. It was still expensive, but at least we don't feel taken advantage of and Harry was willing to patiently answer all our questions without just resorting to "well, if you don't fix this, it's a safety hazard" scare tactics.

I've dealt with these guys for a couple years now, with both my old Chevy Corsica and my newer VW Golf. I know I can always talk to the mechanic who actually worked on my car, and they always explain exactly what the problem is, even drawing pictures when necessary!

This is a wonderful shop full of honest, competent and friendly people. They are the only ones I trusted to work on my car while I lived in Madison. I don't live there anymore, but one of the reasons I hesitated to move to Washington was that Harry and Dave would no longer be able to work on my beloved Saab 900. These guys are smart, articulate and caring. They value repeat business and work hard to keep it. I honestly believe this is the BEST shop in town! Look at the selection of late model fine cars in their lot every day and you'll see that lots of others agree with me. You can find less expensive places, but you get what you pay for at Import Auto. In the long run it's worth every cent to stay with them.

My automatic transmission was leaking in May. It started leaking again in September. I told them I wanted them to re-do it, based on their stated warranty of 6 mo/10,000 miles. They told me in May that they used a silicone gasket better than what the dealer uses. Turns out they used a silicone that's not so good, one that the dealer stopped using. They were completely honest about this, and re-did it free of charge, base on their warranty. Should mention: I walked one block to catch a free-to-anyone bus to my job at the University of Wisconsin.
