Friedel, Martha, Clay, and Ted are all extremely helpful and competent... and above all very fair and reasonable. You will not get a bunch of unnecessary work piled onto your repair bill and they will do a thorough job. They have saved me a lot of money in preventative main't and for alerting me to repairs I didn't need to make (ie. I thought I needed rear brakes but they ended up looking OK... I would suspect a lot of shops would have changed them anyway). I have at least four other friends, co-workers, or relatives who have also taken their European cars (VW, Audi, or Mercedes) or some *limited* models of Japanese cars for diagnoses or repair. All have been repeat customers. They are especially good at aircooled VWs too!

Friedel is a great guy. My father has been taking his Mercedes Benz to Friedel for several years before it was totaled. He first went to see Friedel at the suggestion of someone he was looking to buy a Mercedes from. From our first visit to Friedel's we knew he was a great mechanic. Friedel only works on German cars but I drive a Toyota. He was willing to spend about a half hour working on a problem in my Toyota Camry at no charge to discover what was wrong with it. After discovering the problem in the transmission he gave me the name and number of a great Toyota mechanic to repair the problem. Also Friedel has some weird tests he performs on cars. For example, before my father bought my sister her '79 Mercedes 240 D, he took it to Friedel to examine. Friedel has calculated the exact speed a 240 D should have going up a hill close to his shop, and by driving it up that hill, he determined the compression of the car to be at 93%. My mother was a little leary of trusting a test like that show she took it to a Mercedes Dealer to run compression tests on it. The dealer came up with a compression of 94%. Friedel is an amazing mechanic and I fully recommend him to anyone with a German Car.

A great place to take your M/B for service. They are honest, fairly priced, and know M/Bs inside and out.

This was my first time with them and my first time with any mechanic as I have always done it myself. I wasn't relishing the thought of changing the transmission on my car - in the dirt! (I'm san's garage at the moment) So I went to your site for some advise. Thank you! Friedels is booked weeks in advance yet they don't charge an arm and a leg. No it ain't cheap, but these guys are good and they don't pile on the hours. They just raised their shop time to $65.00 per hour - most shops in seattle are already $75.00 and I don't even want to guess what Phil Smart charges. I got exactly the work that I asked for in a timely and professional manner - and they alerted me to the fact that my front brakes were just about gone (I knew) and gave me a quote for the brake work (a reasonable price) I'll be back!

My husband's 1984 Mercedes 280SL convertible had sat in the garage for 2 years while he was working overseas. Freidel's did a complete safety check, called me with items they found to repair, warned me of a possible complication (brake master cylinder) which ultimately didn't need replacing, and got the car back on the road for a reasonable price. And they are on the way to work! Couldn't be better.
