In 1979, when my Mercedes 240-D had just passed its 12,000 mile warranty period, I met Bob Krogenas when I needed an oil change right before going on vacation. His shop specialized in German cars and was within walking distance of my office; the dealer, where I'd gotten warranty service, wasn't. When I came back, he told me that he had observed what appeared to be premature wear on a part (a camshaft, I think.) I nodded, thinking that this guy was trying to take me for a ride. Well, 3,000 miles later, I was back again for a quick oil change. When I returned, he reminded me of our previous conversation. He told me that the wear looked worse. He had, on his own, called Mercedes, described what he found, called the dealership to confirm the service during the warranty period, and called M-B back. He had arranged for me to take the car back to the dealership to receive a replacement at no cost to me, because, after all, premature wear shouldn't happen on a Mercedes, in or out of warranty. He didn't get a thing out of all of this time--except, of course, a longterm customer. He has since kept the same car running (and running well), installed a rebuilt engine, repaired the heating and a/c system, the suspension and much more. He is a rare gem of a mechanic.

I was driving a 1969 BMW 1600 cross country and experienced some difficulty outside Roanoke, Virginia. RJK found me a reasonable and comfortable motel, shuttled me between their garage and the motel, ordered parts 24 hours from California, explained what they were going to do, did it, and then explained it again. It is hard to imagine better service from anyone. On top of all that is the confident feeling one gets upon meeting absolute strangers who feel like you've known them all your life. And then, even though I had the misfortune of what amounts to an emergency road repair, the charges were reasonable. I'm moving to New Hampshire and if I find anyone around here who comes close to RJK Services, namely Bob Krogenas, Darin and Penny, I will feel quite fortunate. An old car like this, no matter what shape it's in, is only in good hands with certain special people and I would count Krogenas and co. among the folks who will keep this vehicle running far longer than even the mfr. probably originally intended!

I found my way to RJK services when I had endured all the fun (not) I could handle with the local Audi dealership. The difference from the dealership to RJK was night and day. My calls were returned; the work necessary and the costs associated with the work were explained; the work was performed and completed when promised AND the price was reasonable. In other words, if your German made car is unwell, drive it or have it towed to RJK and you will be glad that you did so.

Bob rocks. My wife, 12 month old, and I were stuck in Smith Mountain Lake (45 min outside of Roanoke) with a broken (swamped, actually) Transmission Control Module on our 99 Passat. Not only did Bob fix it, but he relocated it from the floor panel, where it was likely to get swamped again, to the firewall, where it is much more protected from water. Completely honest and up front AND he waited an extra hour ON A FRIDAY for us to come and pick up the car. If you have a German car in Roanoke or the surrounding area, take it to RJK.

Bob listened attentively to my problems and what I had done to try to correct them. He listened patiently. His shop did exactly what I asked them to do - fix the car! The car was ready when promised - and worked flawlessly. When work was suggested it was clear that some things were needed for safety, some for mechanical reliability, some for, well, just getting the car in good shape. This is a professional place. I would send my daugher here to get her car fixed and would know everything would be OK.

These guys did such a good job on my car, I married the owner of the place. These guys do know their cars! And only identify real problems, not made up ones. A refreshing change!

First time customer took BMW 7 series for transmission fluid change. Within days afterward, the transmission failed on the interstate, and I had car towed back to them. They commented, "There's no transmission fluid in the transmission, but there's no leak!" In other words, these smart guys didn't put fluid back in the transmission after they changed it. And they didn't offer to fix their error. I had to pay Valley BMW over $3500 for the new transmission. Run away from these guys.
