Pete is the owner, can't recall his last name. He has always been available regardless of how busy or stupid the questions may seem. I moved from the area over 6 months ago and called him just recently with questions about my car and he provided sound advice via phone. He has also researched stuff he didn't know and has said it when he doesn't know.

Once I had this terrible thumping noise under my car. It turns out something had broken along the axle and was bouncing along the axle as I navigated my mountainous drive. Pete took a look at the car (I was frantic, picturing a big repair bill.) He said the piece that was broken really wasn't necessary. He took it off and didn't even charge me. Another time, I was waiting to get my car when a young woman came in and said while having her oil changed out of town (while visiting family), the garage told her of all these things wrong with her car and recommended an immediate (and expensive repair.) she decided to wait and have Pete check the car out. That afternoon, I heard Pete tell her there was nothing wrong with the car and this out of town mechanic was trying to take advantage of her. Now this opened the door for Pete to get an expensive job but he would rather have the good customer. I currently have over 200,000 miles on my '88 Jetta and Pete's taken care of it almost the whole time I've owned it. And it's still running and on the original clutch.

I rediscovered Plaza Service Center (from this site!)after moving back home to Roanoke five years ago. I'm so glad that I did. In the past, I've always enjoyed a personal business relationship with my mechanic. I detest the mass market shops. Too often, you don't get treated as a real person. Pete Hite runs my kind of auto service center. Most importantly, he personally takes as much time as is needed to speak with his customers. Just today, Pete and I carried on a 15 minute conversation about my Isuzu Trooper. I asked him advice and he freely gave it. We covered all aspects of my vehicle's health. Pete does quality work. I've had him replace brakes and belts. He's also tackled my radiator and diagnosed and solved many nagging carb problems. Many times over the last five years, Pete has offered me advice like this that he gave me today: "Your heater core may be leaking, but lets let it go for a bit a see what develops. I wouldn't do anything about that yet. I do know that I smell antifreeze inside the car, but there are no visible leaks on the floor and your winshield and vents are grease-free. Getting at the core is tough and the part is expensive because Isuzu is selling the whole duct mechanism with the core. It would also take about 5.5 hours in labor since you have to rip the whole dash out and put it together. Your looking at about $600. You won't hurt anything by waiting to see if it really is going bad." He works with integrity. Prices are always reasonable. Every service I've had done there was done in a timely manner. Plaza Service is the best in my opinion.

A friend recommended Plaza as an alternate to the VW dealer. Service has been top notch at a reasonable price. No extras or unnecesary repairs were pushed like some shops. This is the only shop I trust with my VW Passat.

If only every service center were like Plaza Auto. Bill and Pete are very kind and always are willing to explain procedures. My whole family takes its cars to them and we have been nothing but satisfied. I only hope that I can find a comperable service center when I move to Florida. --Courtney, Botetourt County

This is a situation in which the service is so outstanding you almost hate for everyone to know - I fear that as the word spreads I will not be able to get my car fixed! My husband is an engineer, need I say more - and he has been extremely satisfied as have I. Not only have they repaired our Passat and Toyota, Pete has answered questions about our old Cadillac he was not working on. 4/22/2006

Took my wife's Volvo in for a failed ignition coil -- two days after having the same repair done at the Volvo dealership. Not only were the rates much more reasonable, but the part was cheaper and he billed for 30% less time than Volvo. When a third coil failed a week later, he agreed to repalce all four remaining for the same labor as one. I'd trust them with any repair.

I used them for all of the work done on my 2000 Passat over a 7 year period, ending only because I've recently moved out of the area. I never had a problem with their repairs. The best diagnostic was when the car was only 3 years old and the ECM was going bad. The code was for a bad turbo, but Pete figured it was most likely the ECM. He sent me to the dealer because the turbo and the ECM were both still under warranty. The dealer of course replaced the turbo, because that's what the code said and when that didn't fix the problem, they also replaced the ECM.

Hard to downgrade in any way. Work on my wife's VW New Beetle. Located across street from VW dealership - never take your car there for service. Plaza was a lifesaver - our experience is they fix it right the first time, and, if not, make it good. Highly recommended.
