Since I am a person of modest means...I have always driven what most people would call junk. A lot of my cars have been various models of Volkswagon, from a 65 Beetle convertible to my current 87 Fox station wagon. My family has cars ranging from a 51 Ford pickup to a 92 Chrysler land yacht (really a 5th Avenue). Mark has worked on them all with equal expertise. Most importantly to me, he treats me like I know something about my car. He asks about sounds and smells I might have experienced and I feel like we are really brainstorming on the problem together. Like a good doctor, Mark always is willing to answer all the little questions I've come up with since the last time the Fox was having one of its little tantrums. Even when I did the stupidest thing that any car owner can do...I seized the engine for lack of oil...Mark understood that I wasn't just your common idiot, that much had transpired to bring me to this sad state. He found a decent engine and had the car ready for me when I got back from a business trip 5 days later (and his assistant had completely detailed my car...he spent an hour vacuuming!). The bill was far less than you would expect. When the "new" engine developed a hiccup...it seemed to need to cough up a hairball every once in a while...we kept on brainstorming until we found the problem. In short (too late) Mark Stump is the most honest and intelligent mechanic that I have found in the entire Central Virginia area.
