My frien's car simply died on the highway and we were marooned far from home (McLean, VA). A friendly Good Samaritan picked us up and drove us to this station, saying that he worked in Gainesville and knew this to be the best one there. The owner, Chan (actually Changiz - he's from Azerbaijan!) Barmas spent well over an hour trying to diagnose the problem but he said that the diagnostic machine's readings were ambiguous and he didn't want to install a part that MIGHT be the problem when he wasn't really certain that it was. Throughout all this, he was unfailingly courteous and attentive to us two women. , and at the end, he refused to take payment for his time and labor saying that he only took payment when he'd fixed the problem -- and he hadn't fixed the problem! He then called the two truck and we went back to McLean with the car on the truck's back. This whole thing could have been a nightmare. Instead, it was an example of unparalleled courtesy and honesty. Brenda Forman

I've been going to Gainesville Mobil--specifically to Wayne--for maybe 15 years. Recently Chan has bought the shop, and my first two experiences with him indicated that he overcharges. Charged me almost $500 for a major tune-up on my Lincoln town car, of which almost $200 was labor. I won't be going back.
