Tom Powell owns the shop. He is the former owner of the Town & Country Exxon in Charlottesville and won the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce Small Business Person of the Year award in 1994. He actually had a "Car Talk" of his own for 12 years on a local radio station. I didn't know anything about the shop when I first took my car in for a state inspection, I simply picked it because I had a 1/2 off inspection coupon. Upon taking the car there, my fiance realized that this was the same place that had been recommended to him by a friend. There was a minor problem that had to be repaired in order to pass inspection. Tom quoted me $70 for the repair and in the end the total charge was $64. Because I was so happy with his work on that car I took my other car in to get a leaking tire repaired. The tire had to be replaced because the leak was in the sidewall, and they first suggested a new tire for $69.95. I asked if there was anything better that I should get and they told me I'd be better off getting a pair that was $72.95 a piece if I was willing to wait an extra day for them to get the tire in. They could have tried to sell me anything and they simply recommended a much better tire for only $3 more. They are honest and very friendly, and as a woman I was very pleased that they did not try to sell me anything I didn't need or try to scare me into any unnecessary repairs. We will definitely be repeat customers.

I just had my tires replaced there and they gave me a fair price and didn't push an unnecessary alignment, which I had done recently. For the same tires this shop was cheaper than another that had a 3 for 4 sale and was pushing all sorts of other services and/or coverages. Tom, the manager or owner, seems like a real nice guy and you could tell he had good relationships with the regulars that came in and out while I waited. I only went there once with minor car care, but I'd go there again.

I've used this shop many times, and I've always been pleased with their work and honesty. I'm a DIYer, and I know enough about cars to diagnose most problems myself. I use Quicklane for jobs that are too big for me to do in the driveway. They've correctly diagnosed every problem both my wife and I have brought to them, and their prices are very reasonable. They're the best in Charlottesville, and I can't recommend them enough.
