I went to a Jiffy Lube to get an oil change, and when they started my car, it made THE most horrible squealing noise! (That it had never made before.) The psuedo-mechanics at the Jiffy Lube surmised that some belt wasn't turning, but were unwilling/unable to do anything more. I had it towed to my trusty mechanics and they diagnosed that I needed a new steering column - a $600 repair! I was shocked at the price, but since my car is nearly 10 yrs old, not *that* shocked. We reluctantly agreed to the repair - what choice did we have? Kirt called me the next day with great news. They found that their original diagnosis was incorrect when they got to the steering column. A bolt had come loose and lodged against the belt, causing it to stop turning. My total bill was less than $100! I can't think of any other shop that would have fessed up to the lesser charge. So many of the other shops I have gone to in the past would have looked on this as a windfall and charged me for the higher cost repair. I feel so lucky to have found these guys!
