Ian seems to have a knack for exceptional customer service. One example: As usual, I thought I knew what sorts of repairs I needed because I heard second hand from someone else. So, I told Ian I needed a new set of plugs, a new valve cover gasket, and all 4 new brake pads, plus an oil change. Well, he called me and asked questions about each of these tasks, like "How long have you had your plugs? Are they misfiring?", etc., through each repair. It turns out my plugs were still fine, my valve cover gasket was barely leaking (even though another shop told me it was 'terrible'), and my front brake pads were still at 35%. Because he was honest, he lost $hundreds in business that day, but he earned my respect. My wife and I have taken our Toyota and Honda to Ian for about 2 years, and we have always been extremely satisfied.

We have two Accords (a '90 and '96) that we've taken to Ian for scheduled maintainance, brakes, power windows, etc. He's always been straight up with both my wife and I about what the cars needed and what they didn't. Before going to Ian, we had taken the '90 in to a dealer. They insisted that the condensor fan had be replaced at something around $400. We then had Ian look into it. He said the fan is something that needs to be functioning, but it's not always the fan. Bottom line...it turned out to be a $20 relay. Now, he could have done the $400 dollar repair and we would have never known, but he didn't. Ian (and his techs) used to work at a dealer here in Austin. He left and started his own business because he got tired of being ordered to screw customers over to keep the shop billing up. In short, I've never come across a shop that I'm as comfortable with as Ian Somerville's!

These guys are great. I haven't used them in over two and a half years (Honda's!), but my last experience was so good that I have to divulge. We had an older Honda wagon. The A/C was going out. Ian et al. gave the car a good once over and repeatedly talked me out of the A/C repair. They could have took the money and run and nursed the car and my wallet for a few years, but instead of taking a dime from me, they convinced me that it was time to get a new car. They didn't benefit from the transaction at all. Very honest and friendly people. I ended up going to CarMax to get a CR/V and I brought it to them to check out. They said the car was perfect and (unfortunately) I haven't seen them since!

Went to Ian's shop based on others' comments and found them to be true - wouldn't go anywhere else.

They are very upfront about estimates and suggest lower-priced alternatives for work being done if available.

Awesome shop that specializes primarily in Hondas. I went in for a routine (100k) timing belt / waterpump change on my 97 Civic. Prior to going, I marked my other belts which I had changed a few months earlier. They quoted the price accurately on the phone, and called and said that the belts looked fine, but could replace them I liked. I scheduled the service, dropped the car in the morning had the car back by the end of the same day.

Although I live in Houston, I was considering the purchase of a 2003 Acura MDX located in Austin which I found on craigslist.com. I found Grand Imports (www.grandimports.net) on this site and arranged to have them perform a buyer's check on the vehicle at a cost of $90. From their detailed report sent to me via email and followed with a phone call, I was easily able to make an informed purchase decision. As it turned out the vehicle was thumbs down, but Grand Imports was definitely a thumbs up.

They have been working on my Hondas for over 7 years. Ian and his staff are honest and reasonable. The vehicle is serviced and checked from head to toe. Their invoices also have comments about what repairs may be needed in the near future and approximate costs. Would not take my vehicles anywhere else.
