When I first moved to Austin and had my Mazda B2200 pickup (late 1990s, early 2000s), I took it to these guys' downtown location approx 2-3 times for various repairs and always had good results. I was pretty broke, and they were good about finding repair options that I could afford. I also once took the pickup to their north location to have a particular hose/tubething repaired. The person working there was really nice and told me that they didn't have the tube but I could easily get it at an autoparts store and put it on myself. He showed me what I needed to do and charged me nothing, which I thought was very nice.

One time I couldn't shift the manual transmission. The first diagnosis was a transmission rebuild at more than $500. They called back about fifteen minutes later and said, "We don't know what happened, but all of a sudden it's working again. Come get your car." Patient with nagging problems and kind to older cars.

I've used Japanese Auto Tech almost exclusively for several years, and I'm very pleased. They're very quick, even on occasions when I surprise them with a drop-off in the morning and ask for it back that day. Wendy, the woman who handles the front counter, is a sweetheart. My only gripe might be that I seldom/never interact with the mechanics to ask my dumb questions. But maybe that's why they're fast!

I've been going there for over 10 years -- everything from battery replacement to transmission rebuilds. Extremely competent, honest and forthcoming. I don't know any one else that uses them, but I've never had anything but good experiences.

Tech Tron is run by a likeable fellow named Truong, who is honest and direct. I discovered him from a friend who discovered him when the auto shop down the street was closed and he was in a bind. I am no mechanic but I know when a repair is affordable and effective, and Truong has never let me down. He looks for ways to save you money, and he has never misdiagnosed or failed to repair a problem. His shop is as hidden and as dingy as it gets, and his accent is a little hard to understand sometimes, but I won't use anybody else. I've referred several friends and all have been very happy with him. He's the kind of mechanic I've spent years looking for.
