I'm a woman with a rather sad car. I arrived with a long list of things for them to check out, and expected an estimate close to the value of the car. After the mechanic, Don, checked out my car, he called me and told me exactly what was wrong. He COULD have been dishonest and claimed that any number of the things I had him check needed work/replacement/whatever. Instead, he was honest about what needed to be done and when! The majority of things on my list checked out just fine, and the estimate he gave me for the work that needed to be done was very reasonable. In addition, he was FAST!

They correctly diagnosed and replaced a failed battery in my daughter's car.

My husband has had his 1996 Dodge Stratus worked on there and never had a problem. I called to inquire about my 2005 Mazda, and they could not have been more helpful. Their price for the brake job was fair, about $200 less than the shop where the car was purchased. I also found them helpful when I asked whether I should purchase an extended warranty for the car. They took the time to explain all the problems with them. Thanks guys!

These guys have always been open and frank with me. Sometimes, too frank. But better honest than polite. The Angell Street station is also very good.

They have done several maintenance jobs and one repair job for us, in addition to doing the state inspections on our cars. Work has always been done on time, and the staff is professional and courteous. Their prices appear to be moderate for the area. The work area appears neat and organized (is this a good thing?). You can pay your bill and pick up your car after hours at the gas station/convenience store that is integral.

I've been taking my cars here for almost five years now, and I've been pleased. When I thought I needed a CV joint (was hearing a clicking sound from the wheel), they checked it out and said it was actually OK, saving me $225. Previous managers Mike and John were great, and the mechanics working on the cars do a really good job. I haven't completely got a sense of how much I trust the new manager, but so far, he's ok.

Overall I am really impressed with the shop. They are polite, professional, and do extremely good work. They took the time to listen to my concerns and thoroughly answered all of my questions. My only minor complaint is that there was a bit more of a discrepancy than I would have like to see between my quoted price and the final price that I paid. As my car is old I was not surprised when I received a phone call from the mechanic saying that additional parts were needed. I was told the parts and labor would add $50- 80 to the original quote (of $450). When I picked up the car the final bill was $160+ from the original quote. David walked me through the bill and explained the miscellaneous charges (inspection charges, shop fluids & supplies, tax, and disposal fees) on the itemized bill. Do I feel ripped-off? Absolutely no, not at all! The price was still very reasonable, just a bit of an unpleasant surprise. For the work that was done, the final price was a good deal. Simply stated, I would have liked the quote to be closer to the "real" figure. All in all this is a great shop that will have my repeat business; I will also be suggesting the shop to my friends.

I called this shop to set up an appointment based on the comments on this site. David took the time to ask what the problem was (metallic rattle) and immediately diagnosed the probable cause (loose heat shield). He suggested I bring the car in the next morning. I spoke with Rick when I brought it in, and he immediately put it up on the lift. The garage seemed quite busy, but Rick offered to at least take a look while I waited (I was expecting to leave it for a few hours). After a few minutes, Rick came out and said it was all set - he had removed the deteriorated heat shield and didn't even charge me anything. I was thoroughly impressed by how helpful and polite both David and Rick were and will certainly be going back there with any future issues.

When my check engine light came on over the long Labor Day weekend, I went to Pep Boys instead of my usual shop since they were the only ones open. There, the "special tech" wasn't in, so I was going to have to wait a day anyway. I was lightly mocked when I said I thought there was just a computer they could hook the car up to that would tell them what had made the check engine light come on--Oh no, they said, we have to open the car up--for a $90+ diagnostic fee. (After which they'd see what had to be done to fix the problem.) Instead I waited an extra day, took the car to my normal guy--who promptly hooked the car up to the computer, looked up the code that it spat out, told me it probably wasn't anything that needed to be dealt with but to come back if the warning light came back on, and sent me on my way. All for free. I love a good, honest shop.
