Will, the owner, is very knowlegeable and is more than willing to explain any of the repairs performed. Prices are very reasonable. My car needed new tires to pass inspection and I have an uncle in the tire business so instead of failing my car, he allowed me to get new tires at my "uncle price".

1. When my son was broke, Will actually charge too little. 2 When one elderly woman was just having a stressed day, Will drove her home after she dropped the car off. 3. Excellent sense of humor, except during tax season. 4. Great Walleye fisherman. 5. Everytime a dealership screwed up a repair, he has straightened things out on the first try. 6. An artist with American cars.

I'm listing myself as a 'friend' because that's how Will, Matt and Ray have made me and my family feel over the last 6 or 7 years as he's been working on our fleet of aging American, RWD cars. He is a great all-around example of humanity and an eminently knowledgable mechanic, and has plenty of racing tech experience as well. Will's wife gave me a ride from work to pickup my car when it was snowing one winter, and Will didn't think to charge me when AAA towed in a sputtering Buick with what turned out to be water in the carb (after washing it). I have now lived hours away from State College for a number of years, but whenever I'm back in town to visit my parents, I stop by the garage to get hassled by the crew. This will be the last shop you take your domestic vehicle to.

When we first came to town, I asked around for mechanics "who would do it right". I didn't care if it cost me a few more bucks more, I knew I'd make up in the long run. After a few other (bad) choices, I have now been bringing our cars (and trucks) to Will, Matt and Ray for over 20 years. The prices are fair, and I mean that in a very positive way. I do all the easy stuff myself, so he gets all the really tough, ugly jobs. They never take advantage of me, just charge book hours x standard rate. (Although if you mention Car-Talk and he may add $10 to the bill.)

The young fellas at Stark do a great job. I think they are a tad bit on the expensive side (I'm very frugal), but the reason I use them is because if they say I need it, then I believe it to be so. No trickery going on there on West College Ave. Stark's is an honest, down-to-earth place.
