I first met Sonny and his crew about ten years ago. I had been ripped off by so many "honest" mechanics that I had just about given up driving. Around the corner from me lived Mr. Gafney. Mr. Gafney, or Uncle Aaron, as he was affectionately known, was very meticulous about his person and car. I happened to be complaining to Uncle Aaron about how women are not taken seriously when it comes to knowing their cars. That's when he told me about Sonny. Sonny not only treats women with respect, but listens to what they have to say about the maintance of their machines. I think he specializes in taking care of women and senior citizens. He not only is fair and honest, but will tell you when it is futile to continue repairing your car. (He told me "Marilyn, buy a new car. You are wasting your money continually bringing it here for repairs.) What other mechanic would do that? If you are unable to come to his shop, he will come and get you. If you are unable to bring your car to his shop, he will come and get it for you. His other employees, Bruce, a very polite and competent young man; and his son, Donny, whom he is still training in the subtlies of customer care and relations, are a fine compliment to him. He won't give you the "mechanics shrug" and I don't think he has any more boat payments to make. He's one hell of a guy. His prices are fair and reasonable. He'll give you an estimate that 9 times out of 10 is close to the actual price. There are never any surprises. I am a true and converted fan! I have recommended him to all of my "old-maid senior citizens" friends. Sincerely, Marilyn A. Brown

I took my car to M&S for a new clutch based on the recommendations since my regular mechanics don't work on transmissions. Sonny & his mechanics were polite & professional -- they explained the problem & showed me the worn parts w/o me asking. Pricewise, the labor charge was $260 cheaper than what the dealer quoted me & M&S's price for parts was comparable w/ the dealer's. I'll probably still go to 11th St. garage for regular work, for anything that I can't get done there, I'll definitely go back to M& S. btw, the shop is located at 33rd btwn Gray's Ferry & Wharton.
